We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went to a concert here and it was pretty crowded. The interior decoration is worth seeing - is it baroque? The paintings are huge and some were a bit ropey. The statue above the high altar of St Sebastian is rather odd - the left arm seems wholly out of proportion. But is one is interested in Portuguese ecclesiastical architecture and the art these buildings contain, then this is a must.

I have to confess I want to know how one gets into the pulpit - perhaps a secret passage leads there from the sacristy.

Another beautiful whitewashed building in the parish of Santiago, Tavira. Built around 1723 and partly restructured in 1745 the chapel has a wonderful side and main chapel depicting classical art. There are a series of canvases with the life of São Sebastião - the paintings were executed by a local artist called Diogo Mangino. One of the better Church buildings in the area.

The plain, whitewashed facade of this Barroque chapel gives no hint of the splendour of the interior. The walls and ceiling are covered in colourful illustrations of the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian. The doorman doesnt speak English, except to explain that they need funding to repair the paintings, so they ask for a donation as the entrance to the chapel is free. It is 5-10 mins walk from the Plaza Republic, opposite the library. It is not mentioned in my guide books although it is noted on the map from the tourist office. Not sure of the opening hours except that its closed on holidays and we saw it at 10.30am.

The Hermitage of São Sebastião is located in front of the current Municipal Library, it was restored about 10 years ago where an excellent work of recovering pieces of wood reproduced in ceramics was done.
In the interior there are original paintings that tell the Martydom of the Saint!

We happened across this church on our wandering through Tavira. It was very peaceful and the hand painted walls were stunning. I love to see the personalities each of the churches take on and no 2 are alike. So many churches in a small area.

Taken to this church by the Tavira Tuk Tuk driver as part of the trip and found it very nice and with piano music being played live.

Free to enter, a welcoming guide. The story on the tiles panels is excellent. Spot the tiling mistakes.

Ermida de Sao Sebastiao is a ten minute walk from the centre and well worth tracking down. It's a small church, very plain on the outside, with a nave and central aisle with no chapels. However what is most interesting about this church is the riotous use of colour in the baroque decoration of the interior. It is a rich mix of turquoise, reds and gold. There are also some good frescoes again in bold colours depicting scenes from the gospels.
