Riverside Bar and Resturant

Ideal situation, overlooking the river in Tavira. Owned by British, it as a great selection of beers and wine. Mainly a British menu, serving excellent food. Well worth a visit.

Dropped in here a couple of times during a week in Tavira and it was always busy, service was very good and prices were very reasonable for drinks, never tried the food but there seemed to be lots on the menu. All UK and Irish sport catered for on tv and music on most nights , the Sunday night we... More

Set in a beautiful scenic riverside location this place provides a warm, friendly and hospitable welcome. It has great entertainment and a relaxed environment allowing all to make new friends even if just for the evening....food was hearty and great variety - especially loved the goats cheese! The owners Joy & Vinnie are good fun, caring and engaging with a... More

Visited the Black Anchor recently at lunch time. Had a chat with owner Vinny as he hails from Wexford and we live there. After a nice beer we decided to stay for lunch. Had Fish, Chips and Peas for a fantastic price of 7€. The fish was the best I have had in a long time and the portion was... More

Nice bar with good food in the restaurant or at the bar. Nice location on the river. Good music regularly. Watch all the games as well.

We stopped for a drink and planned to lunch elsewhere, put off by the fact it is an Irish Bar (not much prejudice - my husband is Irish!) and the fact they advertised Roast Dinners on Sunday. But after a glass of good wine, sitting in the sun with lovely views of the bridge and water, we decided to stay... More

We usually stay in Monte Gordo 3 times a year but made a quick visit for the first time to Tavira in June. We saw the Black Anchor across the river. I decided to check it out myself for a lunchtime coffee/port. Good measure of port compared to other places I've been to. Of what little I saw the staff... More

Great location next to the river, food about average but service is very slow, ok so you are on holiday and not in a rush but waiting 45 minutes for your starter and a further 20 minutes for main, plus further frustration waiting for the bill. Other than it's location The Black Anchor has little to attract me back.

We recently visited the Black Anchor on 3 occasions while we stayed in Tavira. The fact that we went back indicates that overall our party was happy with the food etc. there is a good choice on the menu and portions are generous. However the chicken (half roast chicken)left a lot to be desired. We were a large group and... More
