Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Tavira is a lovely town with a fascinating history and charming streets and buildings along the tidal creek that comprises the Gilão river. It has delightful cafes and restaurants, and has an air of peace and authenticity about it. My brother and I have been visiting Tavira for years, during different seasons.
However, our visit which has just ended has been blighted by the razzmatazz of a four-day so-called “Mediterranean Diet Fair”. This involved the implantation of a monstrous stage and sound system suitable for a pop concert of many thousands in the middle of the charming Praça da República, the town square. This ugly erection has been there for weeks, ruining the beauty of the town. It is as if those responsible were trying to satisfy their own egos as pop festival promoters by spending huge amounts of money for their own vainglory.
“The Mediterranean Diet” was rightly listed as in intangible heritage by UNESCO in 2010, and in 2013 Portugal successfully applied to join those countries already inscribed, with Tavira as the representative town. Very good. But this intangible heritage comprises healthy eating and drinking of local products, family meals, traditional crafts and music, that sort of thing. It has nothing to do with large-scale show-business. Indeed, what Tavira has done is the antithesis of what the Mediterranean diet stands for.
If Tavira is not careful, it will lose what people love it for – its peace, its charm, its beauty, its traditions, its authenticity.

This is a pleasant area with some lovely pavement cafes which are very reasonably priced and delicious coffee. The area was quiet as we were there ion November. It is by the river and a bridge and near the shops .

The old Roman Bridge ends here and this square can bring some very appealing and photographic reflections from the nearby river and the bridge or colorful buildings that are across the river. Not a spot to seek out, if you visit Tavira, you'll find this naturally : )

Wander around Tavira and visit the market hall, not to many stalls. It's near to the gardens where you can sit awhile. V good ice-cream van nearby and a bandstand. Lots of Caffe steps and restaurants nearby , handy for the River Gilao. You can wander around here and there and see lots of unusual shops.

Great area to relax, adjacent to the Roman Bridge with many bars and restaurants, and musical/drama entertainment on summer evenings from local groups/youngsters. There is always a great atmosphere here in the evenings. Tourist information office is nearby, this is the heart of Tavira
