The story behind this unique architecture tells of its Latvian owner who was denied membership in the powerful Great Guild; to show his displeasure, he built two cat sculptures on his roof with their backsides facing the Guild and their tails straight up to finish the insult.

Make sure you stop by when walking around Old Riga! And research the history behind the cat on top of the roof :D

Despite the funny name, and no, it is not a "cathouse", it is a really good looking building. The history of the cats is even better. So, give it a try.

Not an easy building to find, but when you've heard the story .... well, you've got to, haven't you? It is worth seeing, yes but not especially worth going out of your way for the purpose! Mind, if you're a cat person ..... !

We almost missed this attraction, because it does not stand out of the crowd. On the street level, it is just a nice house. The interesting part can be seen only if you decide to raise your eyes into the sky - you will notice...More
