British tourists are not welcome in Riga
Nov. 2021
British NHS QR isn't recognized in RIGA..RUINED HOLIDAYS FOR US...Doesn't matter where you go, local devices ( which they use practically everywhere) don't recognize our British NHS QR.

Spent whole day exploring Riga old town by walking - very clean, well-preserved medieval town. Pity it was Sunday, many places closed.

Well what can I say, just come back from Riga,Latvia, magnificent buildings, shows London up,market full of tat,and not cheap when you work it out, trams cheap 2euros there and back, hotel ok except for idiots that come in at 2-00am shouting and laughing,no care for other hoteliers, bars are good but don't leave your drink unattended, the spike patrol are around,I blended in with the locals dark clothing,Bob hat, scarf, masks were,nt being worn by everyone, still would give this place 4/5 funny how they walk up to you and speak Latvian, and you say English, then they walk away,I would come back here but in the week, not weekend, too many nutcases wanting to have a fight with you,I just growled at them like the Hulk, and then they would do one, daytime is the best time around the old town, the black head house,(museum)is beautiful, happy just to get away, border control are a bit nasty, especially when they ask you what have you come for, stupid question.i felt like saying something comical but believe me they don,t find anything funny, holiday was my answer, that's all you need to say,say nothing else or they keep repeating the same question to you, Saturdays are the worst time for idiots fighting and shouting,4-30am,I heard a few gun shots, there again it could of been a car backfiring, couldn't sleep, the shop security a bit nasty also don't like you coming in shop without basket, even if you want one item,4/5 for this place, just be careful if you do come,Just be weary of what's around you, other than that have a great time if you come,

Great to Stroll Around
Oct. 2021
The old city does have a fair amount of newer/modern buildings in it due to the damage caused in WWI and WWII. There is still plenty of wonderful architecture and older buildings some of which were reconstructed or repaired after the wars. This is a great old town to stroll around and there are plenty of excellent restaurants too.

Charming UNESCO’s World Heritage site

Riga Old Town has its roots in the Middle Ages when Riga was an important Hansa Town with its own port.

While walking the narrow cobblestone streets, you can admire stunning Medieval-era buildings. The Old Town is also famous for its old churches and cathedrals, such as Riga Cathedral and St. Peter's Church.

The buildings are constructed during different periods of time. The over 500 buildings were built in various architectural styles – Romanticism, Gothic, Mannerism, Baroque, Eclectic, Modernism, etc.

Today, Old Town Riga has become a popular entertainment district. You can find here many restaurants, cafes, bars, and nightclubs.

Many hotels can also be found here. For a tourist, it is advisable to stay in the Old Town or near to it.

Splendid architecture and so many gems and landmarks in between the many narrow but wonderful streets. Such a nice pleasant atmosphere in the Old Town and there is so much to do here and there is something for everyone.

Full of history
Aug. 2021 • Friends
This was my first visit to Old City Riga and it’s full of historical facts and amazing architecture. It’s comparable with Tallinn but Riga’s old part is larger and worth the visit. Roaming streets and visited churches. We got lucky and were able to listen to organ music in Dome cathedral. Then took elevator to viewing platform at St. Peter’s cathedral. We stayed in Hilton and it’s a superb location for old town exploration for the price. Book excursion through one of local guides and it will be fantastic few hours spent learning about the city and Latvia’s history.
