Since they did the renovation it seems that it's hugely popular - we visited on a Sunday morning and it was full with visitors already so we had to wait in a long line. Because I don't really know a lot about art I enjoyed the architecture more than the paintings and sculptures but still - everything was amazing!

The museum is located in a nice old building of the beginning of 20th century (I guess) which was nicely renovated a few years ago. It gives a very good idea how latvian painting tradition developed in last two centuries, parallels with european art of the same period. Many artists are really of international quality. The only pity is that... More

A must for Architects - both the new part on the bottom and the top. Like a cross between a gallery and a museum, with separate artists exhibits top and bottom with the permanent, historical exhibit in the middle. Modern, progressive art in the context of its history.

This can take a few hours to see everything. The paintings are worth seeing and the building is interesting.

Some interesting art but the staff seem to do random ticket checks as you go around the gallery so if you lose your ticket it's off to the exit.

Have been there first time after renovation of building. Fantastic look of it outside and inside as well! Could say worth to see it at least. Exhibition in 4 floors, 5-th floor just impressive roof area completely white and totally empty as it is. Poor staff spending whole working day on 5-th floor :) 4-th floor with great glass floor... Surprisingly good art in a beautiful building along a nice park.Very interesting collection of 20th century works, practically unknown to most I would say, but well worth a visit.

This a beautifully renovated building with some nice features like a grand staircase and windows exposing a state of the art climate controlled storage room, but the artwork was largely limited to paintings and the overall tone was in the dour "life is a funeral procession then you die" vein. I left when I got to the room where a... More

This was an excellent gallery and we had the added bonus of a Rosenthal exhibition downstairs. It was a bit of a pain getting in as the queues were very long on a Sunday morning as it is free to Latvians. We had planned to visit on Saturday but when we arrived on Saturday we were told the gallery was... More
