I like that kind of museums in which possible to slowly examine exposition in 1,5-2 hours. Enough but not too much arts located on a few floors and basement. Basement with a temporary exposition has a transparent wall to show art storage - very interesting. 1-3 floors contain art of Latvian painters divided by age.

Restaurant is located in the national art museum in Riga. Compact, thoughtful menu with international cuisine. Dishes are delicious and service is pleasant. Prices are a bit high but overall nice place.

This really is a fine museum: a classical building, which means high spaces, wide halls. Art is selected and hung very well: chronological tour thru 200+ years of pictorial art. Very energizing, somehow packed with high aspirations and great energy. I would place this museum on the top of (smallish) museums.

We went there because it was pouring down and it was close to the hotel. It was a nice museum (really cheap entrance fee) with a clear layout and good flow both in the main and temporary exhibitions. Not my cup of tea when it comes to art, but a really nice mix and so on. The temp exhibition didn't... More

If you are looking for something to do on a rainy day in Riga then you can't go far wrong with this jewel of a museum. From the impressive building and architecture to the expansive permanent collection of Latvian art chronicling the country's often turbulent history. Plenty of galleries to explore over five levels with the art grouped by historical... More

Compact overviwe of latvian art. Reacently renovated attic is opened for temporary exhibitions. Most interesting are socialist art of the beginning of the 20th century ( Gustavs Klucis) and the last quarter of 20th century.

I pay 6€ for the whole exhibitions. However, it all latvian art and the collections are not much to see (when compared to the Hermitage which only 7€ but take more than whole day to see it all) However, the temporary exhibition quite interesting.

I am not an art person, but why not to have a look at a few paintings. After being to Louvre , unfortunately i compare every museum with that :-). So, it is not a bad one. I particularly liked the serial navigation, so i could see everything, just following a route . No complex paths in order to see... More

Latvians are not a large nationality and the National Art Museum in central Riga is just the right size. It has obviously been recently renovated and is being well kept in order, so the main building is in tip-top shape and provides an excellent scene for a stroll amongst paintings and sculptures for lovers of local art. The four large... More
