We were an English group visiting Riga so we decided to attend the NY Gala evening....the building is amazing (but not the easiest to navigate - we got lost in the interval) It was lovely to see all the Lativans dressed up for the evening (we were not so dressed up) a little annoying because it seems that there were... I'm kind of culturally handicapped and I find operas monotonous. for similar travelers I wouldn't advice going in. the exterior is nice. make few nice clicks and you're done

This is a classy opera house of old that has been lovingly maintained to give you a wonderful experience whether you've come here for the opera, the ballet, or something else.

Wonderful, classical and top professional opera singers and orchestra simply dazzled with their top-on brilliant execution of the repertoire - something I expect at the Lyric in Chicago but don't see always in Scandinavia. Bravo bravo. And so easy to stay at: just grab a room at the nearby Elizabeth Blu Raddison. You walk across the park to the opera... More

Wonderfully atmospheric historical opera house with the galleries similar to all old opera house buildings. Well preserved building and with the great artists working there one can sample not only opera and ballet but also musicals and children's plays. Coffee shops are reasonably priced too.

As our flight back to the UK was not until late in the evening we purchased tickets for the matinee performance of Die Fledermaus. The building is apparently based on the Bolshoi in Moscow and whilst quite small was acoustically superb. There was a screen above the stage which had Latvian and English subtitles thus enabling you to follow the... More

My first experience of a ballet will not be my last. Travel guides said that a visit here was a must. Our first night in Riga coincided with the last night of the Nutcracker performance. The opera house is spectacular. The ballet itself was brilliant and the music was very memorable. So glad we got tickets and at only £20... More

A building that caters for the Arts with some panache. Huge. You can watch Opera at a fraction of the price. Just remember to book ahead. Ticket Office is hidden away on the left hand side.
