Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This is an extremely interesting and informative museum with friendly and helpful staff. Well presented and laid out which gives you a good understanding of what life was like during this period of history. We learned a lot from our visit and would highly recommend it to visitors to this beautiful city which is well represented in Art Nouveau architecture.

Unfortunately we spent only 4,5 days in this fantastic city.
Of course it deserves much more than that. We arrived by bus from another beautiful destination - Tallinn and walked to our Neighbors Hotel where we had a booked studio ( entry room, kitchen, bathroom with a bath and the room itself that had windows looking at the Dome cathedral on one side, gorgeous buildings on the other side and historic museum on the third side. Royal treatment, delicious breakfast, great service and million of other things.
But the most important thing was that the building itself was Art Nouveau treasure.
Even though our room had huge, comfortable bed we only slept a few hours a day. You just can't have enough of this incredible city.
Anywhere where you look, you'll see something pretty, interesting, something you won't see anywhere else.
Food is another thing that has to be mentioned. WOW, WOW and WOW . That's my reaction.
Of course we went to as many concerts as we could, of course we visited most of their museums.
When you visit National Gallery , you'll see artists you had never heard before however their art will shake your world. I promise.
All Riga's museums are very interesting and you can read about them right in TA. The one museum we didn't read about here was a small museum that is located on the street right behind the Black Heads Building. The Information Office is right near Black Heads.
So the museum I am talking about is a costume museum. I don't want to spoil a surprise and tell you everything about this museum but do yourself a favor and visit it. God, that was an unforgettable experience.
I am pretty sure Riga will be "discovered" in a year or two and will turn into another gorgeous but crowded city. Go now, enjoy, eat, drink, swim in pleasure.
Such a fest for one's eyes, ears, all senses.

Wonderful museum mainly in an apartment in the Art Nouveau area of Riga. It is like the family just walked out with all the furniture and decorative items just as they would have been used. Very well done and even spoke English for those of use that do not speak Latvian or Russian. This is great place to see all the decorative arts working together from furniture to wall covers, light fixtures, tableware, kitchenware, rugs, etc. all displayed as they would have been in that time period. The outside of the building is also period, and several others in the neighborhood are well worth a stroll afterward to see!

Feels like a travel in time back to the 19th century. Great way to understand more about Riga's architecture and very special features. As my girlfriend is Latvian, she was especially proud to see Latvian traditions and symbols so well represented.
The staff is also very knowledgeable, interested to engage and share, and make this 1h experience special.

If you are looking it is right opposite the “Art Nouveau” souvenir shop on the first floor and you have to ring the bell to enter the building then push the door with the few stairs
Do not confuse it with the “Rozenthal” apartment on the top floor which can also be visited but has no connection with this museum.
This museum opens at 10:00 and is worth it even if it is not memorial and the pieces of furniture are brought. The apartment is very pretty and ladies dressed in period clothing give you explanations (especially the charming and adorable one who is in the kitchen). The basement is rich in digital documentation that allows you to repeat and visualize the works of Art Nouveau in the city and their architects.
Explanations at the entrance to be retrieved in different languages.

The art nouveau pass is an utter waste of time. Do not buy it.
You buy it on line, perhaps on your phone, make a booking for the relevant house but then have to go to a central location in the city to ‘redeem’ your voucher. If you are only going to two or three houses it’s cheaper and FAR easier just to pay at the door! I certainly wish I had not bought it.
The buildings obviously are remarkable and overwhelmingly worth visiting.

Only visited Riga because of its art nouveau so of course this place was a must visit. Only paid 2 euro entry (on an Wednesday in April, your fee may vary) including photo permission, so that is a bargain. Nicely recreated apartment, descriptions of the rooms are available on cards in several languages as you enter them. the interactive exhibition was a bit hit & miss though in my opinion. WC facilities are available.

Beautiful building outside and inside, especially the staircase (no need to buy the ticket to see the staircase only). Inside there is a feeling of going back in time, especially that the people who work there are in costumes. Art nouveau is a beautiful style and the area is full of amazing buildings.

Wonderful museum with an interactive 1st floor with stained glass windows from 1890-1914, clothes, utensils, etc. And there is a movie about Art Nouveau in English. Another part is an apartment with gorgeous design. The most interesting for me was kitchen where museum lady gave us some information about the refrigerator of those times and the stove that still works. It's definitely in must-see list.

Great little museum, to be visited BEFORE you see the various buildings so as to have a better understanding of the different styles and motives (The basement movie is helpful as well as their digital exhibition there of art nouveau buildings across the city, including information about Riga’s history and the architects). Then you continue upstairs on the ground floor apartment which provides a neat snapshot of a beautifully restored art nouveau apartment. The façade and the staircase is also beautiful, just know that the art nouveau museum is on the ground floor behind a rather unassuming entrance door, not on the top floor (that’s another small collection)
