Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This row of red-roofed buildings on one side of Old Town Riga was built in the 18th century at the base of the city fortifications.
The historic Powder Tower and Swedish Gate are located on the other side of the street.
Today, the barracks are home to a number of bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops.

The Jacob's barracks were old 18th century barracks that left behind their martial function to make way for pretty cafes, souvenir shops, spas ... it's charming, and clean ... And as they are close to the old wall, one can also take a look at the powder magazine (the only surviving medieval tower) and the vestiges of the Swedish gate

Don't miss Jacobs Barracks with textile handicraft at a very low cost and several restaurants with tons of atmosphere.

This street of former barracks was right by our accommodation 8in the old town, so we have walked it quite often. Its been restored and is home to some nice little shops and afes. Worth a wander through!

This is another uninteresting attraction in this part of town.
Once entering the Swedish gate, you come upon what used to be old barracks.
There's nothing to see here.

We walked along the barracks as we were dining at the 3 Chefs restaurant which is housed with in the complex. Its a pleasant looking architectural ensemble but only in passing. There are some cafes and a few shops in the buildings too.

The old city wall was used building houses around it, as the wall lost its meaning as fortification. The wall was uncovered removing the buildings, digging a down to the once street level - showing the original height - and restoring the smaller tower along with the fragments of the wall itself. It is just a decoration these days, as the town grew over it, while in Tallinn the town grew outside the walls.
The Military Museum now occupying the Powder Tower is a relatively new addition, dating from the interwar period. Still worth seeing.
The most interesting is the sculpture - "The Ghost" - hiding in a nook at the wall...

This looks to be built into an old section of the walls. There’s not much left and it’s not that interesting. Talinn’s walls are much much more complete.

Enjoyed walking along here and had a lovely lunch in one of the eateries along the way. Unfortunately no boards depicting its history which would have been useful.
