Great flat beach to walk on, though it was pretty windy with a brisk chill from the Baltic Sea. Paid parking as most streets near are to narrow to allow parking. Nice white sand and plenty of space to spread out and some recreational cement animals and volleyball nets in some areas.

Beautiful area, quiet and clean beach with areas for cafes. Changing pods are available on the beach and the sand is soft and flat. We paid € 5 each for a sun lounger for the day, although in the afternoon people could help themselves to ones that were left or that people had finished with. Well worth the journey from Riga which is about 25 mins by train from central Riga and very cheap. We booked the day before online and it cost us about €6 return for both of us - amazing value. We enjoyed the walk to the beach and the village area on the way had shops, cafes and restaurants. We even got to see a classic car show in on the way back to the station.

Visiting in Feb we had hoped to witness a frozen sea but it has been way too mild for that. Still a nice day trip from Riga and despite it being cold the beach was quite popular for walkers. Very clean, and the cafe/bar 'Summertime' on the beach that was warm and welcoming on such a cold day.

Jurmala beach is nice place and shallow for the kids. Jurmala beach is perfect place with small kids. Only thing what I expected at the beach was beach chairs. There was only few beach chair rentals and they are extremly pricey.

We are going there once every couple of years, it's always nice experience. I would say the prices are good around the area, considering it's the beach, but this year, there were a lot of rude tourists there. Maybe just the season or I was just that lucky, but it really ruined the overall pleasant experience.

I got the train from Riga to Majori which took around thirty minutes and was easy and very cheap. The walk to the beach took about ten minutes, it was very cold and almost deserted but the sandy beach looked clean and you can imagine it being busy in the summer.
It was worth the trip just to see a bit of Latvia outside if Riga.

Nice long sandy beach on the Baltic sea. We saw people playing sports such as volleyball and football.
Nice family place as lots of people where there with their children. Lots of people were sunbathing.
They have a lot of small bars on the beach as well as food places. I thought the prices where reasonable as we bought drinks and food in two different kiosks on the beach.

Jurmala's beach facing the Gulf of Riga is 33 km long. It is covered with white quartz sand. The shallow coastal waters are suitable and safe for children. Amber pieces can be found on the beach.
While Latvia was part of the Soviet Union, Jurmala was a favorite holiday resort for high-level Communist Party officials.
You can still feel the Soviet vibe. In some parts, the beach was smelly, probably because of the algae. In the beach bars we visited, the service was quite non-existent. Some of the buildings have fallen into disrepair.

A very enjoyable place with white and soft sand. Quite and calm even in the middle of August. Of course, the water in the Baltic Sea is too cold, but the children dived in any case.
A special mention of the sunset! is is really beautiful, with a mix of colors unmatched!
We were to see it every day, taking advantage of the bars that keep open until very late, where you can drink and eat while enjoying the moment.

One of the best beaches in Baltic states. Good transport connection with Riga (train, buss). the long sand beach with lots of beach bars and attractions. Just couple hundred meters away from Jurmala main street-Jumas where plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. Cannot put a higher rate as in my opinion the beach could be cleaned better

Hi! Where could I book a beach volleyball or beach soccer court on a certain date and time? How does it work?
Looking for a date in mid-June. Specifically interested in the courts at "Majori" part of the beach.

Are restaurants and shops in Jurmala open on June 24?
Written 23 June 2019
Hello,
Sorry for late answer.
Some restaurants may be open 24/7, especially near the casino.
Shops - I have no information about that, maybe at petrol stations.

If you want a calm day on the Beach what train station is best?
Written 5 October 2018
If you mean high season, then I don't think it matters. All is full.
If you are 3-4 people I would take a taxi. Panda is always cheap (about 14 Euro to the beach), but sometimes you need some patience.
Written 13 October 2018
Sure. But in summer it will be a lot of people

I will be getting the train from Riga to Jurmula. What is the name of the station I get off? And is there any possiblity of renting sunbeds? Is it far from shops & restaurants to the beach?
Written 24 July 2017
The station is called Majore. I recommend you to walk along the pedestrian street to the beach. You can rent sunbeds and buy something cold to drink

How is the water on August? What can be the temperature? From riga to the beach by car is easy? Thank you
Written 30 January 2016
In August I saw local people swimming; I'm from Italy and I'm not so courageous... We got to Jurmala by train, it's very easy...
