- Oxfarcats84 contributionsGreat couple of hoursOne of the best museums we have been to abroad as it was very interactive and kept your interest.Great for kids too as there was lots of stuff for them to do and all the children we saw there were enjoying getting involved. For all the exhibits it was possible for you to change the screen to a wide choice of languages. The shipwreck and story behind it was very interesting Cost 15 euros and well worth the money.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 March 2024
- MustanaamioHelsinki, Finland118 contributionsGreat views, below average exhibition. The tower itself is a beauty. The exhibition, however, was not worth the fee. The ship wreck was interesting and nice to see, and the cellar floor exhibition was nice. The exhibition on the upper floors isn't that interesting to others than kids and ship enthusiastics. The roof floor is, however, definetely worth the visit. Even though the cafe wasn't open, the views from the top are simply beautiful.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 May 2024
- Zarino ZappiaLiverpool, United Kingdom111 contributionsIf you like model ships, this is the museum for you – everyone else, less soIronically for a museum all about Tallinn’s relationship with the sea, if I had to pick one word to describe this place, it’d be “dry”. Walls and walls of text, delving into the most tedious minutia of medieval barges and shipping routes. Three floors of display cabinets for scale models of sail, steam, and motor ships. Dimly lit exhibition boxes full of items of variable interest. That said, there’s probably enough here to justify the entry price, including a massive, recently-excavated “cog” ship hull, a bunch of really interesting little videos of sailors and passengers past and present, and a number of interactive exhibits that will keep the kids entertained, including things where you have to move or make noise to activate or control something on-screen. Despite being split across five (or six?) floors, the museum is fully accessible, with a stylish circular 8-person elevator in the middle of the tower. There are toilets and lockers on the basement level, and a small but picturesque cafe on the roof, serving drinks, cakes, snacks, and full meals, at fairly typical prices for an Old Town tourist destination.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 August 2024

This funny name perhaps came after its shape or its cannon. It’s one of 26 bastions of the town wall. It was built in 1500s originally served to protect the port, but later it became gunpowder and weapon warehouse and prison. The diameter of the building is 25 metres and its height is about 20m, its walls are 4,4-6 metres thick. We visited it and took lots of photos. Nowdays it’s the Estonian Maritime Museum building. It was closed so we couldn’t go in, but it’s worth to see it outside, too.

I stayed in room 109 as a single room. With en suite. The room was a good size and was exceptionally clean. The decor was slightly tired but the hostel is extremely well priced and good safe facilities. The location is perfect for easy access to the city and the port. Less than 10 minutes each way. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and English was perfect. I would highly recommend. Was an incredibly safe and well run Hostel.

At one of the main entrance portals of the Old Town, enjoy a well curated exhibit of Estonian sea culture. Thoughtful for kids. And the best part: a fabulous rooftop terrace to soak in the harbor views and activity. Go towards the end of the day and stay leisurely on the terrace. Loved this!

The Maritime museum inside the Fat Margaret is not very good. It is 6 euros each and the exhibits have no English translation leaving you wondering what is going on. In the base is a Japenese exhibit, in English and Estonian which is fine but has nothing to do with the fort. The building is interesting though but its a bit pricey for what it is.

Hi!
I'm from Spain. My classroom mates and I were searching for a hostal to book in, on 19th June to 25th June, 2017. We are around 30 students, plus 3 teachers who will come with us. I'd like to know if we all could stay in this hostal, and which activities could we enjoy in Tallinn. Thank you!
