In Soviet time Hotel Viru was good enough to accommodate foreigners. It also had to be good enough for the KGB ... The museum represents a collection of the stories of two worlds. In one of them, mostly existing on paper, happy Soviet people enjoyed a life of plenty and friendship, led by a single wise political party. The other world – the real one – had a nature much more diverse and complicated.

Yes, I wasn't overwhelmed, or underwhelmed... just plain whelmed. 11 Euros is a lot to pay to be shown old hotel brochures from when the KGB hid here, in a room they abandoned. Interesting, but not fascinating. Really not much to see or hear. The...More

This museum is located on the top floor of the Sokos Hotel - just enter the hotel and find the tour desk. On the top floors of the building are the rooms used by KGB officers to spy on hotel guests during the Soviet times,...More

This museum documents the Soviet occupation is Estonia from WWII to 1991 when independent was finally gained. The museum covers the deportations and treatment dishes out in pursuit of the Communist ideal. A chilling period of history for the Baltic nations.

I enjoyed my visit to the KGB Museum, it was a real step back in time and the history of what happened in these small rooms at the top of the Viru Hotel was so interesting. The views were also amazing.

You need to book in advance but we had great visit. The hotel was built for western visitors during the Cold War so they could be closely monitored and the KGB left a lot of surveillance equipment when they left.

Not so much of a museum but the guided tour tells an interesting story of the hotel and of how the KGB spied on international tourists. During the Soviet era the hotel Viru was the only hotel in Tallinn where international tourists were allowed to...More

And if the Viru desk has a stampede of Finnish tourists (doubtful since summer vacation is over but anyway), also the desk of other smaller hotel in the same lobby can book it for you.

This is an old question but may be useful for future visits. All you need to do is ring the hotel and book. They speak English so no language problems.
