Expecting a myriad of arty shops and ethnic curios for sale, we were disappointed to find only 1 pottery workshop with a small display of articles for sale and a couple of other souvenir shops. Much more interesting was the market just over the river...More

The Republic of Uzupis which is just across the river from downtown Vilnius features quite a few of these little statues and oddities, which gives the Republic is reputation as home to artists and general oddballs. That might be why I loved it so much!...More

FUN, fun, fun. And don't forget to try the fried bread with your beer when there. Also, read the Uzupis constitution while there. It makes common sense.

I visited here on the old town walking tour and it really was different. It was a great experience to visit and I even saw the famous cat! Not to be missed while visiting Vilnius.

Beautifully made, intricately placed, a bit quirky - just as it should be, coming from Uzupis. Note that if you want to see it, you will have to pass the bridge towards Uzupis and look the city direction.

Uzupis is a declared independant republic inside Vilnius. No doubt those involved take it seriously. The mermaid is a cute sculpture located on the bank just above the river

It's a beautiful statue, but maybe a bit hard to stop. But definitely worth a visit and be sure to grab a photo.
