A Must to Visit
Jul. 2021
The Vytautas the Great War Museum in Kaunas is a must to see. Admission was less than five Euros and the museum offers, free of charge, a self-audio guild of the displays, providing background and history of many of the numerous displays. The audio guilds are available in several languages. The exhibition of the airplane Lituanica, on which Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas flew across the Atlantic Ocean in 1933, is very interesting and a center piece of the museum. The museum offers a historical guide into the development of the Lithuanian nation from its early start, through the Commonwealth years with Poland, into the division of it and occupation by the Russian Empire. Its rebirth as an independent nation in 1918 through the first occupation by the Soviet Union, then Nazi Germany, and the second Soviet occupation during World War II. The resistance movement and finally its second rebirth as an independent nation entering NATO and the European Union are all represented in the museum. One could spend hours reading and enjoying the exhibitions, so make sure the rest of your party is as interested as you are. There are plenty of restaurants within a few yards of the museum where you can rest, enjoy a meal or drink and reflect on what you saw and learned. The museum staff is very friendly and helpful and language is not a problem. This is a must for any and all military history buffs.

Interesting but limited

Wide range of exhibits showing evolution of weaponry through the ages. Well worth the admission price of 1 Euro. Disabled lifts could be better signposted.

Fine museum of War through the Ages
Oct. 2019
Entry fee to the War Museum is just 2 Euros,Which is a real steal at that price it has comprehensive sections with arms and armour in Medieval times and the the Two World Wars.I especially enjoyed the Medieval section and the Great Entry Hall.Information boards on display throughout the museum have an English option so easy to read. When I visited I was lucky enough to be visiting on the last Sunday of the month,so entry was free in al museums in Kaunas.

Interesting and well organised. Learn some of Lithuania's long and complex history. Just east of the old centre.

Interesting way to pass an hour..
May 2019 • Couples
A museum to visit when your have a hour or two free, for a very small fee you can wind your way through a history of military memorabilia, uniforms, weaponry and interesting facts and information. Well laid out and easy to follow, helped by a lovely lady (with short red hair) to find the crypt and explained the significance of it’s history. What a spectacular building and frontage.

The museum should not be a playground for children.
Apr. 2019 • Friends
Vytautas the Great War Museum would have been worth seeing, but unfortunately there were many children in the museum. Children created a loud noise that did not match the culture of the museum. Couldn't visit because of unpleasant noisyness.

Very interesting for the enthusiast

Impressive, spacious building and all items well exhibited and documented. Very reasonable entrance fee and lockers available for outdoor clothing etc. Detailed information and areas where one can try on uniforms and be photographed, which might appeal to the "museum-reluctant" young. Very pleasant surroundings, which we might have spent more time exploring, had it not been such a cold and snowy day. Certainly a monument to Lithuania's tortured past and therefore, worth a visit.

Great museum!

A lovely museum depicting Lithuania's many battles - there are lots of exhibits of uniforms, firearms and ammunition, several old army vehicles and a display of all the flags used over the years. There is also a lovely, peaceful garden outside with an eternal flame dedicated to the unknown soldier. Well worth a visit.
