Very interesting

A great museum that shows a great peace of history after the horrible war crimes that had been done.

The monument is very impressive, the exhibition very interesting and comprehensive and the guided tours are also great. Bit outside of town but well worth travelling over there for it. I travelled from Vilnius just to see it and I'm glad I did.

Our Road Scholar group was able only to see the monument and the exterior of the fort on a Sunday afternoon. It was a sobering experience to be where so many have been killed.

Being a 20th Century history buff I was keen to visit, and glad I did. An interesting record of not only the fort's history, but also that of Kaunas and Lithuania, before and during the Second World War. I found the exhibits on the French...More

We did not visit the museum. We were Just in the park and saw the monumental memorial to the fascism victims. It reminds me of a Guernika in stone, If you are in Kaunas, go see this.

The fort itself is very impressive. Inside the museum you will not only learn a lot about the military history about this place but also about the people who were killed here. There are so many photographs of the Nazis' (and also the Soviets') victims...More

To imagine hell on earth, visit the Ninth Fort. Imagine being uprooted from your home in (for example) France and ending up here awaiting your turn to be murdered. 50,000 human beings, mainly Jews were murdered by the Nazis and their sympathisers here during WW2....More

The Ninth Fort is many things: it's a 19th century fortress built for defence by the Russians, turned into a Gulag by the soviets and a site of execution by the Nazis. It is a museum selectively telling the story of the Lithuanian struggle for...More

After realising I had taken the bus in the opposite direction I eventually reached the place! I spent the afternoon here first of all at the well informed museum then at the prison where people where kept before being murdered. Its all well laid out...More

Yes, it's standard cash fare for any single journey. Kaunas city is not that large. Just pay the driver when you board.
