Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I did not get it. Others are claiming in the reviews, how beautiful is the town, peninsula or testy food etc. Nobody mentions the echo. In fact the echo is not working anymore, because of some new constructions, why block it. Go to a random tunnel or cave and you will get 100x times better echo.
The peninsula itself is obviously still worth visiting.

When the Abbey of Tihany has been finished it was the only large construction in the area that was pretty much empty.
Mow what has been observed over the years that is someone was yelling on the nearby hill - like 7-800 meters away from the Abbey - the sound reverberated on the building and fed back as an echo.
Today - with all the buildings and trees growing in the area - the Echo is remaining a legend and you can scream from the top of your lungs and there will be no echo.
(Although there will be people ready to swear that they heard an echo).
So to sum it all up - when you are in Tihany - check out the Echo hill - it is still interesting but I do recommend you don't expect too much ... overall is nice know about it - but is just that - interesting and that's all.

Many people say that the Echo was destroyed due to architectural changes in the sights vicinity but we try it every time we are in Tihany and it works, even during daytime, even in the tourist season, even with noise around you, even if the kids are shouting... of course the Echo is best challenged with the deep voice of my husband. Try shouting "Szeretlek Pali!" :) It's a tribute to a funny old Hungarian movie I really like.

Make sure to make your way to Echo Hill. The views are amazing over Balaton. We went to one of the restaurants with a beautiful view over the lake for a drink and dessert. Well worth the trip.

There's a marked place to stand and although I felt incredibly self conscious doing it, nevertheless having watched the technique employed by a couple of other people I gave it a go - and it does sound like your shout is bouncing right back at you. It made me laugh and jump a little too with surprise that it did work. Tihany is, despite the crowds of tourists, quite a lovely little town and well worth the visit whether you try the echo or not.

Tihany is a small place at Lake Balaton in Hungary with an old parish and a well preserved old fisher-village, nowadays transformed in a tourist attraction around lavender and the 7x-echo supposed to be heard from the echo-spot when one shouts towards the church. A nice view over the lake and a lot of boutiques and restaurants complete the experience.

Just go next to the statue and shout out loud. You will hear the echo just fine. It is a fun little thing tourist like for ages.

So we came to try the Echo and I have to admit that my attempts at getting the wall to respond to my shouts were unsuccessful. As we were walking away somewhat disappointed a few lads also tried but they whistled instead of screaming "hello" and for them the abbey duly returned the sound with a few seconds delay. It is said that in times past you could get the echo to repeat a couple of words, but now it appears that with the new trees and buildings in the way you should restrict yourself to a short high-pitched sound. It's still kind of cool though. :)

A quaint walk up the cobble stone streets , past thatched houses and colourful local shops, you reach Tihany Echo. The view is beuaitful, but male sure you stop at the statue of the girl calling out - you can call too, but the echo doesn't really work. Still it's fun to give it a try. There's also the powerful steps of the Stations of the Cross on the way up.
