The road trains in Hungary are usually a good way to get your bearings before exploring on foot. This one is no different. It's perfectly adequate but that's about it. No better or worse than any of the others we visited.

Take the train, it's cheap, it's convenient and it's fun. Don't be tempted to save yourself some money and walk, you'll be exhausted it'll take you for ever and it's not worth it. I love this little train.

We saved ourselves a steep walk up to the town by getting on this lovely little train. Cheap at only 400 Ft per adult and 300 Ft per child. Going back, the boat waited for the passengers from the train - so we needn't have...More

We found ourselves having to walk back from the ferry port back up to Tihany centre with 2 small children because the train driver just decided to stop......

If you want to save some steps from the piers up to the Abbey this road train is a reasonable 400 HUF) alternative

We thought this was a great way to visit the monastery, but on asking the driver for hop 0n-hop off tickets as advertised he didn't know what we were talking about so just did the single ticket. A bit like a white knuckle ride going...More

Tihany is perched on a hill and represents a very kitch and touristy "old" Hungarian village. Crammed with eateries and paprika shops the prices are sharp and access is by the road train from the harbour. Tour buses roll in around 11am so be warned...More
