Wow, beyond impressive, dignity, sadness and the miracle of continuity. A small group keep prayer services, kosher dining room, and community services running!

Walking in the old center of Miskolc, I saw the main curch. As the Jewish quarter normally is in the neighbourhood of the main church, Ivlooked aroend and saw the chanukia. The synagogue was closed, but we could enter the courtyard. Sad to see the memorial tablets of all the Jews perished.

The Synagogue is near the center of Miskolc. Many improvements have been made in the neighborhood over the last few years. The beautification of this area has been remarkable since 1989; fountains, gardens, new restaurants, and shops have further added to this community focal point

After visiting a few synagogues in Transylvania it came the opportunity to visit this one in Miskolc. Although today the Jewish community counts only 500 out of 10000 in 1920, the biggest disappointment was that the synagogue was closed to visitors. The bad news is that it is closed because there is a danger that the building will collapse. We were explained by the care taker that because works done for an adjacent underground parking lot caused a shift of the river bed which flows in the vicinity ,to harm the grounds of the building.Today you can see that big areas in the courtyard sunk already.Because of this danger the entrance to the building is forbidden. So this might be the end of the synagogue build in 1856/62. You still can see the quite monumental facade both from the main entrance and from the other street. In the small hall connecting the entrance to the yard there are marble tablets commemorating the tragic events of the war.
The synagugue is situated in the very center of the city.

Unfortunately the commies tore down the more beautiful Palóczy Street Synagogue around 1960, this one is an average temple, remarkable building though.

Very nice Synagogue , specially when you get close to the Arc where the Torahs are , the colours are vibrant but it would be more beautiful if it someday it would be renovated , unfortunately that would cost a lot of money. From the outside is a majestic building with its creme colors and nice architecture, worth to visit , but is sad because is like abandoned by time.
