Lovely walk across the River Danube from Slovakia to Hungry (500 m)The bridge joins Sturovo in Slovakia and Esztergom in Hungary. Easy walk with kids or you can take a little “train tourist ride”.

We walked over the bridge and back. Only learnt, as I was posting my photos, that it was rebuilt in 2001, after being destroyed in 1944! Wow!

During the Second World War the bridge was bombed. After the War Hungary was divided and the bridge was waiting for reconstruction for decades.

Whilst in Esztergom we decided to cross the great Danube to Slovakia. The bridge affords spectacular, photogenic veiws of the basilica. However, it doesn't afford much shelter in a thunderstorn as we found out on our return :-)

Beautiful views up and down the Danube river. Short walk accross the border on foot, bike or in a car to visit another country and another city just for a cup of coffee or an ice cream.

The bridge is interesting to look at, but the main reason for walking on the bridge is to get a good view of the Esztergom Basilica. The best view of the Basilica is somewhere near the Slovakia side of the bridge. You can walk all...More

We were on a Danube Bend tour and after visiting the cathedral we crossed the bridge for a quick photo op of the cathedral from Slovakia.

There are places to get lunch near the bridge on the Hungarian side of the river.
