Awesome experience, great for nature lovers and families.

I’m not sure I can say enough good things about what an awesome experience this was. We did this tour on a Tuesday the day after we toured the nearby cave (for which you can also purchase a joint ticket). There are audio tours available so make sure you request one when you arrive. I am the only English speaker in a Hungarian speaking family and although we forgot to get the audio tour the guide (learn from me!) maybe you’ll be lucky enough to get our guide who conducted the tour in both Hungarian and English seamlessly crowd sourcing one or two words and always called the children of the group to the front to be able to see the formation he was discussing. The tour was a good 90 minutes but it was a very large group. There is a bit of a climb on damp metal stairs (7 stories tall) and definitely not for the claustrophobic. The cave formations were impressive and lovely and it’s mind blowing to think this is all steps from a busy city. Pack a sweatshirt and wear good walking shoes and take lots of pictures. Also be ready with your dinner requests for the legend of the witches kitchen ;)

Disappointed
Oct. 2019 • Family
My mum, sister and I visited the caves and bought our tickets using the Budapest card, in English from the desk where a lady who served us in English handed us our tickets and a sheet of paper with some information about the caves. However she did not mention to us that the tour would not be be in English. The lady who then took us on the tour also did not mention that the tour wouldn’t be in English. Upon asking her she responded by saying that as she had to do the following tour in English an hour later she didn’t have time to do the tour in English m. By this point it was too late for us to leave as the tour had already started. The only highlight was where we scaled the ladder and climbed the stairs at which point she did explain the health and safely in English!

Not very informative! Recommend asking before buying to ensure that tour will be given in English!

Unique experience

We got the bus there. 65 stops just outside. Then waited for about 30 mins for next guided tour which was excellent. Very knowlegable guide who spoke good english. They said there were 400 steps and a 7 m ladder so need to be aware before you go. Mixture of rock formations, stalegtites and cauliflower type formation from the hot water receding.
Easy to go independently. Probably get s smalle group too. Closed monday. Can get a double ticket to include other show cave which is walking distance away and closed tuedsays.

Beautiful cave but poor organisation
Sep. 2019 • Family
Tour started late with far too many people on it (at least twice as many as was sensible). With this amount of people it would have been difficult to hear the guide even if she was understandable. However even though our tour was meant to be in English, we couldn’t understand anything as their English was what you would expect from a trained tour guide. This meant most of the information was missed so all our info on the cave was from an A4 piece of paper. As there were around 40 people on the tour you couldn’t see anything that was being pointed out, we kept being crammed into tiny spaces and most of the tour was waiting for all the people to catch up. Such a shame as with the right guide and a smaller group this would have been 4 stars!

Awesome first time caving experience
Aug. 2019 • Couples
Did a 3 hr adventure tour with our guide, Eva, and it was the most fun thing we did in Budapest. She taught us so much about caving and showed us the different parts of the cave labyrinth system. My absolute favorite was sitting inside the cave in total darkness (when we all switch off the headlights) then doing a tight segment of the cave crawling chest to ground without any light! Couldn’t have asked for a better first time experience. You’d be surprised what you can hear when there’s total silence inside the cave but I won’t ruin it for you. Go try it out!

A brilliant and fantastic way to spend an afternoon. If you choose this as an option for an adventure on any visit to Budapest you will not be disappointed. The guide I had was just outstanding really funny and supporting when needed. One top tip when you arrive the signage is not the best. Don't bother to ask in the small bar and coffee shop. The staff are at best unhelpful. All you need to do is walk up the stairs to the left of the bars main door and you find a helpful member of the team who will only to happy to get you sort.

Amazing!

Me & my partner visited the caves today after discovering it was free with the Budapest Card (1990HUF otherwise) and what a great decision it was!!

We arrived at 10am opening, ready for the first tour at 1015am (catch the number 9 bus. Then short walk to number 65/65A. Stops outside the entrance). Greeted my welcoming and friendly staff. All staff spoke good english.

We were the only 2 English speaking in a group of 8 (6 hungarian). A tad concerned we would miss out of the guided tour due to not understanding the language. We were handed a sheet of brief but informative sheet regarding the stages of the tour.

We had a female guide (sorry forgot her name) who greeted us with a smile and explained everything. After every talk in Hungarian she would move the other onto the next stage whilst she stayed back and explained everything in English, which we thought was fantastic! Super lady.

The caves themselves are a wonderful experience. There is one section where you have to climb steep steps, however the guides will wait for you and wont rush you.
There is a section within the theatre chamber where music (Lord of the rings) is played during the talk. What a beautiful experience this was. Amazing!!

Amazing day. Thank you!

Book small group adventure trip

Over 2 hrs of crawling and sliding around in a cave with a knowledge and funny guide. Would highly recommend if you have never tried caving before. Taxi from the centre of Budapest about 10 Euro and they called us a taxi to take us back

A nice long tour
Jan. 2019 • Family
When I say "long" I mean around 1 hour and 15 minutes and I mean it in a very positive way because we are cave lovers and we are tired of the standard in-and-out 20 minutes cave tours. We were pleasantly surprised with this one. And it is not a walk in the park either because there is a portion where you have to climb a series of stairs so steep that they were almost vertical. Our guide pointed out that the stairs are the equivalent of climbing an 8 storey high building. So if you are not a fit person, be warned. We welcomed the challenge, especially my child. As for the temperature, it is indeed very cold. I felt I needed gloves at times (we visited in winter time btw).

Well worth a visit
Dec. 2018 • Couples
This was free with the Budapest 72hr travel card. It was very interesting not too cold, around 11 degrees but be warned you have to climb a very high ladder at one point. It took around 30 minutes on the bus but it is worth the visit. It was lovely to see bats in the cave.
