Neighbourhood: District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.

This cream-colored building with a red tile roof sits at the top of Castle Hill; it belongs to the building complex of St. George Square (Színház utca 1–3). It was constructed in 1763 as a Carmelite church and monastery. In 1787 it was transformed into the Court Theater of Buda, part of the Castle Hill conversion from a purely military garrison to a royal residence and symbol of Austrio-Hungarian empire. The National Dance Theater was in this building from 2001 - 2014, but then was relocated to a modern facility in Millenáris Park. The building interior was recently remodeled to accommodate the Prime Minister’s office, which moved here in January 2019. The former Court Theater is adjacent to the Sandor Palace which houses the President's offices. The building is not open to the public, but the exterior can be viewed from St. George Square.

Unfortunately the former theater now will be the seat of the Hungarian Prime Minister! He thinks that he must have his office in the former kings quater, just above the whole city. So if you want tosee the building, forget it, you won't be able to come closer!

The nice theatre building is just next to the Sandor Palace on top of Buda Hill. When we visited Buda Hill this time, we could just get a few snapshots on the environment and proceed to other scenic spots nearby.

National Dance theater is located just at the top of the hill, next to the Sandor Palace (where the President's offices are housed). It is reminiscent of the buildings constructed in the last 1800's in the castle district. We were unable to get tickets to view any of the performances, as they were all in Hungarian and we had limited time.

A wonderful cast of young dancers and choreography by Bertalan Vàri; the act was so well-done, they danced with attributes like umbrella's and made music meanwhile ; the music was excellent and the performance was really of a high level; very enjoyed this event and there was a very enthousiast audience; GREAT !
