We had a very good experience in the tour. Our guide Bogata knew a lot about the hungarian history and about the current art and nightlife culture. We visited a lot of places we wouldn't have visited if we were traveling the jewish quarter by our selves. Highly recommended!

Yes, Budapest has all the chic restaurants, bars, squares etc that all European tourist spots boast, however it also has the "ruin bars". These are bars with character that have been created within derelict buildings mostly in the Jewish quarter of the city. It's difficult to spot these from the street so a wee bit of research first is advantageous.... More

This tour was really fun an interesting. Learned a lot about the city's history as well as current events, through the lens of a knowledgeable local. The guide, Darius, was very friendly and showed a lot of cool things. He even went above and beyond and helped me find things to do in the city on my own, outside of... More

After few days visiting the different parts of Budapest, the tour in the Jewish quarter with Antonia was really amazing. You will go through many hidden parts of the city and you will be astonished by how alternative Budapest is. Amazing.

If you enjoy mixing a little something different into your historical tours, this is a great tour. Márti was very helpful in setting up a private tour for our family of 4 with 12 & 14 year old daughters. Our guide Bogata Bogati was great! This was one of our favorite tours, a walking tour through Jewish area and some... More

I had the chance to take the Alternative Budapest tour recently. It was informative and interesting. Very conversational and, at times, inspiring. Many of its sites I would have passed anyway, but would not have had the context that gives them value. My guide was Bogata. She was great! She made us feel comfortable with her and our tour group... Concentrating mainly on Pest's District VII, this alternative walking tour, lasting about 3 hours, was really fascinating and held our interest throughout, despite the torrential rain. Our friendly guide, Antonia, (who spoke perfect English) was very informative and showed us many of the "un-touristy" attractions such as street art and murals, a quirky book shop/cafe with a little garden, a... I had a tour with the guide Bogota and she was great. Very knowledgeable about art and street art, and knew of many local places to show us (coffee shops, print shops, etc). This was a really good alternative to the "big sight" tours. It mainly goes through the old Jewish Quarter.

Our guide Bogata was very hungover and her tour mainly consisted of pointing at the graffiti art on walls and literally describing what it was. For more information, she suggested we look online. For a city as amazing as Budapest, the tour was boring and badly put together. The places we visited were nice, but that is courtesy of the... More

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
