Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's on the upper floor of a "family house size" building, so the whole museum consists 3 rooms only. Different items from all around Asia, including japanese, chinese or indian items.
No real "story", not a museum to go through the history of any of the asian countries. It concentrates more on Ferenc Hopp and other people that visited Asia and colletcted the items.

The Museum of East Asian Art is on Andrassy Ut. in the former villa of its benefactor, Ferenc Hopp (1833-1919). He was a optician, world traveler, and art collector who left his 4000-piece collection to the state for an Oriental Art Museum. In addition to its permanent collection of Chinese and Japanese ceramics, porcelain, wood cuts, textiles, paintings and sculpture, the museum hosts temporary exhibits on a variety of Oriental topics (check their website for the latest information). The entry courtyard contains a slender pagoda, and the landscaped rear garden features Japanese maples, a circular gateway and Oriental shrine. I found it a peaceful spot to reflect on Oriental culture half a world away. The museum is open 10am-6pm Tue-Sun with an entry fee of 1400 HUF (seniors and youths half price).

I've never read the tale of genji, Japan's most famous literary set of poems. It was hard for me to follow the references to this tale of genji at the temp exhibit on Heido Period. I do like the interactive games in the exhibit such as identifying the scents in the game. The exhibit took up 4 small rooms total and it took me less than an hour to go through them all, reading every English label card in all the items. I was mostly confused on why certain items were relate to Tale of Genji, which may have to do with the fact that I've never read the book before. For the admissions price of 1,000 HUF, I would recommend it as a short museum visit before you head off to the House of Terror museum, which was en route on my museum map.

Beautiful exhibition , huge collection of original Japanese woodcuts and other objects of art, including Hokusai. Substential information, beautiful displays. The Japanese garden is peaceful, authentic, beautiful. Really good souvenirs created from the object of arts on display.

Located almost at the end of Andrassy Avenue in the mansion of former 19th century optician and Asian artifact collectioner Hopp Ferenc, this museum is a charming place for Oriental art, based on various private collections and donations. It always houses temporary exhibits and has some delightful souvenirs. Not exactly stroller friendly, but with a marvelous little oriental garden and a super cool moongate. It is the largest Oriental museum in this part of Europe, by the way.

We received a discount at the entrance, and the museum was still not worth the little money that we paid. It has two small rooms with some theater puppets. The other part consisted of an artist's works, which I really didn't get and mostly didn't understand why they are in a museum.
Overall, it was a waste of time and I would not recommend this museum to anyone.

This is a museum that is meant to house the Japanese and Ottoman collections. I was told when I came in that this was correct. I paid, went in. Apart from three indonesian puppets in one small room, nothing else. I came back down and highlighted my displeasure, the curator smiled. When I gave two thumbs down she smiled again. Absolutely pathetic. Avoid as if the location is an Ebola research centre.

Never been here before but after my visit I am not planning to go back. This is very small museum. If you read everything and spen some time in the garden you could fininish it in max 90 min.

Museum itself is small, but interesting. It offers free locker, where you can put your belongings during visit. There us also small souvenir shop.

Don’t expect too much. Two small rooms, some pieces of furniture, cloth, jewelry, paintings, small utilities, and ornaments. The pictures are mostly from Hungarian painters, instead of Chinese and Japanese. Two movies are going one in every room, but if you don’t speak Hungarian, you can’t understand a single word. It doesn’t show too much from the golden age of Shanghai’s nightlife.I was waiting for something much more enthusiastic.
