Neighbourhood: District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.

Loved visiting Matthias Church as part of the full day we spent in the area including visiting Buda Castle. There is a small stairwell to get even a closer view of the alter from a different perspective. Just a beautiful quiet religious respite in a busy city. Would highly recommending a visit. Enjoy

Beautiful building, well worth the visit and an unexpected museum upstairs! Would recommend to anyone who appreciates unique architecture. The interior of this church is amazing, I've never seen walls of a church like these before, very unique designs and colours.

This is a stunning church! The outside is very pretty, but the inside is very unique and stunning. The walls are painted in a variety of interesting patterns to compliment the satin glass. Spectacular space! It also has a great museum space worth checking out!

Matyas Templom is a church located inside in the old city in Buda Hill beside the nice Fisherman’s Bastion.
The church is a real artwork. Inside there isn’t a only piece of the walls without decorations. Beyond statues, glass walls, etc. There are also many coat of arms of important medieval families.
The admission fee was 2000 HUF and it’s worth it.

This is not just a church, this literally a castle and a museum at the same time! It is huge, you keep passing through chapels, sectet rooms and different floors and it serms like there is szill more to visit. Take your time, make sure you ser all of the intefesting statues and glass windows, the Black Virgin chapel, the items displayed in the museum etc

Beautiful architecture and decorations, amazing roofs. Unfortunately, the area was closed when visited because of some 100 guys turning a movie, al day long.
