The fisherman's bastion is in the castle district at the Buda side of the city. One can take the funicular ride apart from.the bus that goes up there. At the bastion, you get a very beautiful and scenic view of the city. One can take nice panoramic pictures of the city from here.

After a too brief ride up the Furnicular, a nice stroll led to the Bastion, which part of was being refurbished. The fairy-tale like structure showed craftmanship and creativity while being totally impractical as a bastion. The wintery weather allowed for letting the imagination go during hiking around the site.

Definitely the best view of the city and parliament building. With the cold haze over the city, we spent the morning admiring the view. A good photo opportunity for someone looking for a good spot!

This is a very pretty building with wonderful views overlooking the Danube, Parliament buildings and Pest. Make sure that it is a clear day when you visit as it is a bit of a trek to get to!

Despite coming on a foggy day it was still wonderful to see Budapest laid out before us. We took the funicular up as the hop on hop off buses didn't go up to the top. It wasn't a bad walk at all from our base on andrassy street

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
