I found Fungarian on the web and decided to give it a try. I travel alone and I'm a girl, but I decided to try and trusted the positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Well, at the moment I'm sitting in a restaurant after my 3 hours with Balász and I am really happy I decided to take the tour. I speak... More

I can't say enough nice things about our instructor. He showed us around and gave us a rudimentary understanding of Budapest and Hungarian culture. He tried to impart some Hungarian language skills on us but that is more than a little bit of a challenge. We did keep our cheat sheet and we did learn how to say thank you.... More

Firstly Miklos was just incredible. A truly informative day with a guide who really knew his stuff. Professional friendly intelligent and totally accommodating. My husband and I took our 21 year old who is doing his dissertation on Hungarian and soviet relationships during the uprising. We were going to leave our son to it but decided to go - so... More

This was an incredible addition to our trip, adding politics, history and personal stories. We walked around the historic communist/socialist sites in Budapest, learning the history of the major political sites and visiting some old communist cafes. Be prepared to walk, and to learn a lot! There is humour, stops for refreshments with a bit of history thrown in, and... More

Miklos was absolutely amazing and hilarious. The tour at times took on somber tones due to the delivery of the historical events, however, this was quickly matched by Miklos turning this around and adding more information to the tour. This was an active tour around the city centre which was wonderful to physically see the statues and places mentioned. It's... More

We had an hour long Hungarian lesson and planned a two hour walk with Balacz, but it was bitterly cold and we spent a two hour "walk" through the fascinating history of Hungary. It was an excellent introduction to Budapest and Hungary. I would recommend any first time visitor to do this on arrival- this program adds so much value... More

Miklós made me feel at ease and I loved the 2 hour 'course'. Although I had a bit of knowledge beforehand, still enjoyed this a lot! Thank you so much Miklós for the wonderful time!

No visit to Budapest or indeed Hungary would be complete without a tour with Fungarian - it's a fascinating experience to learn more than you ever knew about this amazing and beautiful city. What's more is that you get an authentic experience to discover the real city rather than just a "touristy" tour ! I highly recommend it!

Staying in District VII / Jewish Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.
