We arrived in Budapest around four oclock and saw the production of Les Mis was on that evening - although the theatre was booked we had seats in the gods for 4.50 GBP each - it was a fantastic night and one of the best Javer performances I have seen. It was a lot more raw than previous performances in... More

They play almost only musicals. Our main problem with the tehate that we have seen several great productions abroad, and the very talented Hungarian artists are still not at that level. It is very difficult to get tickets, for our grandchildren for MAry Poppins we were waiting 3 month.

As a venue, Madach Szinhaz is excellent. The lounge area on the upper level was incredibly classy. Even though it was accessible to anyone with admission, it felt like a VIP lounge. The musical itself was very professionally done. The sets were elaborate and the cast was extremely talented. Les Miserables is currently showing, and I hope to visit again!

Watched Mary Poppins show on 01.03.2016. As I don't speak Hungarian, I needed subtitles. Person changing subtitiles was either drunk or high or saw the show for the first time in his life. The half of the show wasn't translated AT ALL, another half was translated very poorly. And the guy changing subtitles would be at least 15 secs late.... More

The production wasn't an overall success for me, but it was thought provoking. It seemed like a good place for younger audience to get a first taste of the classic. Still the theatre enjoys a good reputation.

Dear Thetre Goers, Do yourself a favor, and don`t go for this awful performance! I have been sitting there for roughly 40 minutes, and I could not wait until the break, had to leave the show. Both actors are famous among hungarians, but they failed to convince me about their greatness. None of their jokes,or else came through. It was a real waste of... More

We (a couple) had a chance to visit this theater two times to see Joseph (and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) and Mary Poppins. During first show, we were sitting on the balcony far away from the stage but in the center that made possible to see everything. During second time, our seats were located much closer to the stage but... More

I absolutely love this theatre and the professional productions they present. I don't speak Hungarian, but have seen several wonderful shoes here - Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Joseph. The cast work so hard and really become their characters, the set and costumes are new and innovative - not always following the westend or broadway original. The... More

We were staying at the Corinthia hotel just a few doors away and the concierge was nice enough to offer us tickets one night so we went. We found it to be a very nice small and intimate theater to watch a performance. This place I believe is over shadowed by the Great opera house and Operetta theater so does... More

Staying in District VII / Jewish Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.
