Visited as a small group from our river cruise ship .
Having visited Budapest 5 years ago & seen the “ sights” we wanted to try something different. This certainly hit the spot , it was fantastic.
Really we could have done with more time , it was fun , informative and very hands on .
We made Goulash Soup, Dumplings & Apple Strudel. The added bonus is we got to eat it too .
A most enjoyable afternoon , we had such fun would certainly recommend this .

Thank you for your kind comments.:)
Yes, we are also noticing that the trend in recent years is that tourists are no longer satisfied with only sightseeing, but want to experience something more interesting. We are very pleased that our cooking program met your expectations and that you spent a memorable and quality time with us.

We were a small group, some vegetarian, some not. The leader easily accommodated each preference. We were led in the recipes, but each of our skill level was respected. We were given guidance, but not instruction which suited us very well. Beverages were offered, including palinka and wine after we used the knives. The food we created was so good!!! I have all the recipes and will be making chicken paprikash for friends and family.

My wife booked this as a tour through expedia and at first I was a little hesitant. I really didn't want to travel all the way to Budapest to take a cooking class. I'm glad we did though.
We took a taxi from our hotel to the address listed on google. When we showed up, the owner didn't seem as though he was expecting us. Turns out there are a couple locations. We went to the wrong one. He called over to the location we were suppose to go and also hailed us a cab, which he paid for. After reviewing our email we realized we made the mistake cause the address was properly listed but they insisted on paying for the cab. That was awesome of them.
When we arrived to the location (turns out it was walking distance from our hotel) we were met by Violet. She welcomed us into the cooking school which also serves as a pastry school. The place was neatly decorated and everything was sitting out ready for us to start cooking.
We made an appetizer, goulash soup and a desert. All were amazing! Violet taught us some very traditional Hungarian techniques and even some cooking/cutting techniques we never knew. She was very friendly and we felt very welcomed.
I'm very glad we took this tour and it actually made the highlight of our trip. I would recommend this to anyone, even if you don't think cooking could be very fun.

We booked this cooking class for a group of college students and it was a fantastic experience! The place has a great setup, with everything from cooking stations to a coffee shop to a bar (with a grill area outside for nicer weather). The staff was incredible - fun, helpful, and encouraging. The group was split up into different teams and were off to work making a variety of Hungarian dishes. They all had a blast and the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend this for a group looking to team-build or even for the individual or couple looking to learn some new recipes.

I am a travel writer, so I globe trot quite frequently, and have been to cooking schools around the world, and have to say this was the best I have been to! The atmosphere was super friendly and relaxed, the food was incredible, and everything on the menu is good I will most likely try at home. Try and go for miss Oláh Ibolya's class, great teacher!!

It was great ! Our Chef, Violet, worked with us and another family. So much fun, learned some history about Hungary, their food, and their feelings toward life. Be sure to bring a bag b/c you can take the leftovers back to your hotel. They informed us of 2 other locations, I wish we had time to sign up for more. If you are Budapest make this a stop, you'll still have plenty of time in the day to do other things, then head back to your hotel for leftovers. :)

We have taken cooking classes all over the world. This experience was one of the better ones. The instructor, location and cooking stations, food learned how to prepare were excellent. The instructor spoke very good english and was easy to understand. She took her time explaining everything, was patient and continually answered all and any questions we had. The instructor guided us and then allowed us to prepare an entire menu which we then ate. The school is in a lovely location and is big allowing each person to prepare their own meal. We had a wonderful morning and the school is flexible on your time and dates. They answered my emails immediately and were easy to communicate with. When we made suggestions for the menu they were agreeable. Go and have a great time...we certainly did.

The responsible person was very friendly and likeable, but we were missing explanations and help while cooking. It seemed like she was totally overcharged with the group and that it was the first time she was cooking these dishes. Ingredients were missing. The soup which we were supposed to eat first, was finished after the dessert, the group was not able to eat together due to bad time management.
This course was definitely not worth the money we payed.

Dear Irene,
thank you for your honesty! We are going to develop ourself and set up a more manageable menu course for these kind of bigger groups. The line-up was a bit tricky with the different cooking times.
But I hope you got a useful speech about the business strategy and so ... and you have great experience from Hungary!

This is a great way to learn more about Hungarian cuisine, cook some new meals and get a tasty lunch to boot.
My wife and I have been taking about doing a cookery course for years but I never fancied one at home, however the chance to learn some new tricks and cook meals from further a field made this a must as part of our trip and we would certainly do again.
The day started with our cook for the day, Fanni, meeting us at the central food market. It's not that much more expensive to add this tour to the experience and certainly worth that bit extra to get the most of the morning. We were the only two on the course that morning and so felt well spoiled with the everything having a very personal touch.
Fanni's English was excellent and she spent approx 45 minutes giving us the history of the market and then the various local food and drinks of Hungary. We then bought the main ingredients for our meals and saw the varieties of foods on offer from spiced salami, which I had to grab some of and is delicious, Pick is the brand to go for. Also grab some paprika and saffron as a fraction of the price you will pay at home.
We chose goulash soup, chicken paprika and chocolate sponge with cream for dessert.
The kitchen is a very well equipped and clean and tidy. Whilst your cook is there to help you do get to carry out most of the work yourself which means you get the most of it. The cook is able to tell you more about the local food, meals, wines, wine regions and local spirits for after dinner such as Palinka, I like the raspberry and pear and my wife the grape flavour.
Once through the cooking, using the detailed recipes provided (these also get emailed to you afterwards which is great for making when home) it was time to eat! Even if I do say so myself all were amazing with the flavours of the local and most commonly used spice of paprika coming through in the first two courses. Whilst told it is best to make the goulash a day before when at home for the best taste it was great as was and so the extra day could only lend itself to increasing the amazing tastes.
Paprika chicken is a favourite of ours at home and so this variation on what we do is a new option and one we will be certainly be making. Again the flavours are amazing and chicken so tender. I especially liked the noodle type dumplings which I have always wanted to make but never got around to. After also taking the opportunity to purchase the tool for making these before I left and the simplicity of the ingredients and quick cooking time I know they will enter many a dinner at home as would go with any type of stew or casserole.
Lastly as cake fans, and our kids too, we chose the traditional vanilla and chocolate sponge with home made vanilla cream with walnut, rum and raisin sauce. I had two bowls, that should say enough on how good it was!
We also had a lovely local red wine, best to let them suggest as won't go wrong.
The school produce a great Hungarian cook book and it would be well making the purchase as based the the courses we cooked we can't wait to work through the rest of the book when home.
On leaving we got a nice gift of a logoed spatula which will get plenty of use.
Couldn't recommend enough and thanks to Fanni for making it a great day and one we will always remember.

Do we get to choose courses for the meal to be prepared?

Our chef, Anna did ask us a lot of questions to see if the menu she planned would be something we'd enjoy. If there is something in particular that you'd like to make you can always reach out to them before booking. Happy Travels!

Buongiorno a tutti,
andrò a Budapest ad Agosto e vi volevo chiedere qual'è il costo di questa attività . Sono molto curiosa perchè leggendo le recensioni ne parlano tutti molto bene ed essendo un'appassionata di cucina, credo proprio che passerò da loro!
Grazie mille :)
