Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As written in the title - when looking at this monument - there will be mixed feelings in the beholder.
In 1945 - WWII :
First - the Soviets "freed" Hungary and several other countries from the Nazis - only to become oppressors themselves.
Second - it is undebatable, the soldiers have fallen and sacrificed to get Europe free of the Nazis ... and this is a truth, no matter how much politics we throw at it!!
Heroes are heroes regardless of the propaganda and all the politics of nowadays.
I prefer to look at this monument not from the perspective of the Soviet oppression but from the perspective of somebody admiring the sacrifice of the soldiers who fought the Nazis - hence the mixed feelings from the title ...
When in Budapest- only a few steps away from the Parliament building (and even closer to the US embassy - isn't it ironic? ) you shall find this "controversial" monument and you can stop for a few pics ...

The Soviet Heroic Memorial is the biggest obelisk/statue in Liberty Square, but recently it is balanced back with the Ronald Reagen and George W. H. Bush statues on the other side!
The statute is really controversial because the liberators became occupiers for many decades...

This attractive, white stone Pillar strategically placed in liberty Square so it rises between 2 Nouveau Arts buildings in the background is a fitting memorial to the army that liberated Budapest from the Nazis while suffering the highest casualties in world war 2. The square was also attractively decorated at night for the holidays.

Sad to see such monument in the capital of Hungry, a member of EU. A monument for the solders of the regime which brought 50 years of fear and terror for the country.

Just a few meters away there is a small photo exhibition about the victims of soviets regime. There is flowers with russian flag ny the monument to solders, but no flowers and regret by the photos of murdered people.

I value monuments in many ways. They were put there for a reason and this one was for the help that the Soviets gave in getting the Nazi's out of Hungary. Kudos to whomever got this erected.

The elegant Soviet Heroic Memorial in Budapest stands as a poignant tribute to the valor of WWII Soviet soldiers, embodying their historic sacrifice with grace and dignity. Nice piece of history.

This statue represents the memorial to those Russians who helped liberate the country during WWII from the Nazi's but also mixed emotions from later oppression during the cold war era. Two American presidential statues are nearby as well.

This monument honors the Soviet soldiers who fought to liberate Hungary from the Nazis near the end of WWII. Later, the Soviets were seen as oppressors, but their service to Hungary is still recognized.

History is complicated in Eastern Europe.
