- Marie5466Guanajuato Municipality, Mexico1,151 contributionsViews, Views, and More Views. Best at sunrise or sunset.Significant parts of the fortification/defensive walls of Piran remain well-preserved thanks to extensive, and continued, renovation. The third and largest one sits prominently above and on the East Side of Piran, on Morgoron Hill. That wall has six towers and so high above town, it offers amazing views. Piran’s Town Walls were built in various stages from the 7th to early 16th century. Sections of the old town wall and seven gates still stand throughout Piran today - it's kind of nice to find them all, each with its own feel/design. It cost 3 Euros (at the time of this writing, free for 12 and under, no dogs allowed) to walk to the top of the wall (free to see it from below). Very narrow, and at times uneven stairs as well as low ceilings make it inaccessible for people with mobility issues. I particularly liked seeing the whole town of Piran below, getting a better feel for its layout with the drastic blue of the Adriatic Sea beyond. Beautiful.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 5 March 2024
- LoriTacoma, Washington49 contributionsAmazing and funThe town walls is worth the walk up the hilly narrow streets of Piran. Once you reach the walls you pay to enter but well worth the few euros. You get to climb narrow and low hanging ceiling stairs in the towers and along the walls. The view is amazingVisited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 27 May 2024
- Libby HSheffield, United Kingdom48 contributionsWell worth the climbThis is quite a climb but well worth it. The entrance fee is very reasonable and the views are spectacular. Be aware that the walls themselves are not all that accessible for people with mobility issues, though most (not all) steps have hand rails. However, you can still get quite decent views from the area immediately beneath the walls.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 28 June 2024

On a hot summer day, I am only with a small number of tourists at the highest point above the city. We look down on Piran illuminated by the sun and surrounded by the sparkling sea. For a moment, we become the guardians of this ancient city, but WE ARE armed only with cameras. Unforgettable!
I try to capture these wonderful moments in my memory.

Piran is best enjoyed from above, with the wonderful and romantic views that do not disappoint. The road up to the walls is accessed behind the main square and will take you 10-15 mins to get there. Clearly the less mobile will struggle, but it is worth it. Its only a 2 euro fee to enjoy the stunning views of the endless red tile roofs and maze of streets.

Very beatufiul and amazing sights from here. I think that it's a good spot to watch the sunset (it closes at 9PM) and the sun sets around 8:30pm (in august at least). The entrance costs 2 EUR for students.

There are beautiful views of the charming Pirán/Pirano with its Venetian charm from the towers of the walls of the town at the top of the hill. Be aware with the parking in front of the entrance: it seems to see free, (there is not a machine to pay any ticket) but it is just for "authorised vehicles". We paid an amend of 40 euros. Park the car on a weekday at the sidewalk.

A must-go! Very low price even now when everything is gets expensive because of inflation and the views are as good as from some of the bell towers. It is also nice to see the town wall and be able to climb several towers on it.

In October, I think we saw only one other couple on the walls. Our guide gave us good information about the history before we went into the entrance to the walls, and left us to wander on our own. The views of the city and the water were so nice from atop the walls. It is definitely a nice stop.

We feel it wasn't worth the effort getting to the place. Climbing narrow and high stairs, bumping into other people, very short walk on the walls for a good view. There are so many other places in Piran with beautiful view, free of charge without a steep climb

Not expensive at 2 Euros but definitely worth a visit for the amazing views from the top. Catch the gorgeous horizon and the red roofed town of Piran. It's magical to just look from the top. Quite a walk upto the walls and finding your way via google maps. But it was totally worth it.

How long is the hike from town to the city wall? I am from Canada.
Written 2 November 2019
I would say about 20 - 25 minutes.
Written 2 December 2019
there is no parking space at the walls - it is reserved for residents and you might get fined! There is a parking house some 300 m away at the road cross to Fiesa. If you enter Piran by car, you cant climb the street going to the wall! It is restricted!
Written 7 April 2016
I believe that is logical that in the city center tourists can't ride with their cars...
Written 8 April 2016
Basically you can. But I would not do it.
When we were there it was always overcrowded with no free space.
And you have to pay a fee for entering the town first.
But if you really have to you may find your way around. Good luck.
