River exit of city center
Feb. 2019 • Couples
This barrier concludes architect Plečnik works on river. It was build during WW2 and in classicism style of ancient Egypt.

Boring
Aug. 2016 • Couples
It is boring, lots of heads and a weird monument in the middle. Slippery when wet and bad to take pictures from it. Go to the tripple bridge instead

Strange work of architect Plečnik
Jul. 2016
Barrier is a mixture of different styles. Main point is that it is work of famous Jože Plečnik. Architecture is the last part of Plečnik’s work on or near Ljubljanica river. His work starts in Trnovo with some steps and weeping willows, continues with Shoemaker’s bridge and Three bridges and with market colonnades. Some scientist can see some connections with Egyptian buildings, some can fine Etruscan elements. You can walk to the barrier from the market in less than 10 minutes.

unique arhitecture

less known achitecture gem is worth a visit- it is not far, close to the Dragon bridge and no a lot of people know for the place - even locals! Interesting for architectural lovers and technological wonders... Not to mention, nice walk along the river banks

A wonder
Jul. 2015 • Family
The walk from the city centre to the barrier is pleasant and short, if the day is cold or hot there are cafes to spend time in as you go. The barrier, designed by Joze Plecnik in the 1930s and built in the early 1940s marks the point at which the river leaves Ljubljana city. It looks as if it was made for a movie. Its working mechanisms are hidden. In view is the river water cascading down underneath a stone structure across the river with three columns adorned with dragons, Egyptian style heads and ornate columns. Viewed from each bank and the pedestrian bridge which has been built under the road bridge you wonder at the vision of a man who thought this piece of engineering deserved a monument.
