a visual treat when we were there (in late August) at the height of the market for fresh produce. An amazing variety of locally harvested stone fruits and mushrooms

Vodnik Square is Ljubljana's open air market between St. Nicholas' Cathedral and the Dragon Bridge. The square is named for a man of letters who wrote poetry in his native Slovenian. He published a native language newspaper, and was influential in introducing Slovenian into the school systems. The square is large and is filled with fruits, vegetables, flowers, preserves, herbs,... More

Vodnik square got his name of Slovene poet Valentin Vodnik, who wrote also the first slovene cookery book. His monument is there as well. Across the street is very good restaurant Vodnikov hram. Vodnik square is Ljubljana's central out door market from Monday to Saturday.

What to say about it: it's a small square, the beginning of the Old city from eastern side. There is big market place, there is the way to go to the castle or you can go by foot in the Old city. Very close of the Vodnik square is famous Dragon bridge (Zmajski most)

Nothing particularly special to see here, but you will probably pass through here at some stage on the way to the old town or when visiting the cathedral. Not really worth going out of your way to visit.

If you’re into mingling with the locals and getting a feeling of the local taste, then you’re at the right place. The vastness, the colours, the freshness, the kindness of merchants, everything is truly a very pleasant experience. During winter kisla repa or fermented sour turnips is the star, huge barrels filled with it overtake the scene, this was the... More

I visited here for the produce and flower market. Wow! Lots of great fruits, vegetables, and flowers. I bought several items to sample. They even have a fountain/water tap that is provided to wash your fruits and vegetables so that you can eat them right there! A great place to visit!
