Overview
More
National Museum of Slovenia is the oldest and the largest museum institutions in Slovenia. It was founded in 1821. The museum palace in the very centre of Ljubljana was built in 1888 and was the first building in Slovenia assigned exclusively to culture. The permanent archaeological exhibition reveals the unique past of Slovenia. Among other great exhibits you can see the earliest musical instrument in the world, the 60,000-year-old Neanderthal flute as well as the situla from Vace.

This well organized museum was a rainy day treat. It has artifacts from the Stone Age to the present. A recording of the oldest musical instrument ever found, a 60,000 year old Neanderthal flute could be heard. The bone flute is preserved in a temperature...More

The National Museum of Slovenia building holds the National Museum and the Natural History Museum of Slovenia, so you can visit both at the same time. If you have the Ljubljana Card, admission to both is free. Just make sure you hold on to your...More

This museum should have a clearer total. I was expecting a complete history of slovenia- as suggested by 'national museum' and in fact the museum focused only on the Roman era which was good, but not what I expected. I think there is another building...More

It's a nice quiet place on the outskirts of Ljubljana center. The exhibition is modest but is arranged in a very interesting way. There are a few interactive attractions that are a lot of fun, even for adults. The staff is very kind and helpful....More

Visited here today and spent a good hour noisy round! Enjoyed the exhibitions they have and a real good selection as well. Rainy day outside so thought might of been busy but was the opposite..Glad we paid a visit😊

But the space itself has a sense of faded glory about it, as do some of the collections. There's still some interesting stuff to see (including, oddly, an Egyptian mummy), but we went here because it was the only museum open on the Monday and...More

Another large Ljubljana building, but only a small proportion is used as a national museum. On the first floor there is a splendid prehistoric to Iron Age treasures temporary exhibition. Much better than similar exhibitions on the British Museum. Good explanations in English. Some amazingly...More

The National Museum shares a building with the Natural History museum. We visited both as they were both on our Tourist pass card but we soon cut short our visit to the Natural History section as it was dusty, dry and dull as ditchwater. Once...More

Very small with some artfacts from the iron and bronze ages up to the Romans. Nothing that you can see in a bigger museum elsewhere. The building is shared by this museum and that of natural history, but the entrance fee is separate. Did no...More
