I visited this statue while walking around Ljubljana. I assumed that Franze Prešeren must be a fairly well-known figure, as it stands in the center of Prešeren Square, so I looked up his name and found out that he is a representative Slovenian poet, also known as the father of the modern Slovenian language, and a line from his masterpiece "Toast" is the national anthem of Slovenia. In addition, the anniversary of his death, February 8th, is a national holiday. There is also an episode with Julia, his unrequited love, which is like a Slovenian version of Romeo and Julette, and the statue of Prešeren is said to be gazing at a relief of Julia on the wall of a building on the opposite side of the square.

This monument is in honour of the Slovene national poet France Prešeren. The monument features a larger than life sized sculpture of the poet. He is depicted dressed in the outfit of the period and holding a book representing his poems. Behind is a column of rock surmounted by the figure of a muse holding a laurel wreath over the head of Prešeren.

This is a statue on the Presern Square - a walk through the statue - local identity in Ljubljana. Nothing big rather than a photo.

I feel like the statue isn't that great on it's own, but it really gives character to the square with the Christmas market lights around.

This is a central feature of Preserov Square, and balances it quite nicely with the three bridges, town model and Franciscan Church.
A nice statue which is a meet point for many.

Sándor Petőfi's muse and wife, Júlia Szendrey, is well known among Hungarians who love literature. Another Hungarian poet, Bálint Balassi, was also on fire for a Julia, just like Preseren. Julias was adored by poets were the love of their life, as was Juliet for Romeo. Julias were capricious girls, some of them made the life of the admires miserable by not returning their love, like as it happened with Preseren. The greatest Slovak national poet, was unlucky, and for the rest of his life yearned for his Julia Primic, but his emotions never found the return. To stop to feel very sorry about him, he also loved his drinks, lived together with a woman and producing three children with her, meanwhile having several side affairs. All the same, on his deathbed, he declared, that he never has forgotten Julia. For us, it was a lucky situation, since, from the pain of the poet, beautiful love-poems were born. He also predicted in the “A Wreath Of Sonnets” that
“ For all Slovenes will then dawn brighter days
And kindlier stars upon their land will gaze,
More brilliant songs will come with better times.”
Now, on one of Ljubljana’s most popular square, named after him, the grateful posterity erected a big and decorative statue of France Preseren.
It is a landmark and also an often used meeting point. Everyone who visits Ljubljana soon learns where is the well-known square with the famous statue. Perhaps to make their favorite poet’s afterlife happy on the wall of an opposite house now the bust of Juliet looks out of her window so that the poet can now delight in her forever.

This is one of the great poets in the country and the one who composed the national anthem of the country.
Standing not far from the Franciscan Church, on the 3rd (latest of the triple bridges), visitors will not miss this statue.
His expression was "serious and solemn" and based on the story behind, he was said to be in love with a girl but they never got together. So in remembrance of his affection for this girl, his statue was facing at the direction towards a building, some distance away, with an image of the girl (the one he loved) at the window. It was so touching and heart warming story!
Besides this, this is also one the key meetup areas and is near to many gift and souvenir shops, the tourist information center, restaurants and cafes and as such, with high human traffic. (but do watch out of the mini trolley buses that ply on the pathway too)
Thus, do enjoy and immerse in the Slovenian lifestyle and way of life when here!
