Totally loved the experience of being at the University of Warsaw Library Gardens! Though library was closed for holidays but I'll plan a visit there when it gets greener and more colorful.

Impressive from the outside, exquisite from the inside, and has fantastic views from the top. I had been planning on visiting this extraordinary library in Poland, which is one of its kind located right in the heart of the national capital. Speaking of the library:

1. The library boasts of a roof garden split into two parts: the upper garden (open to the public from April to October) and the lower garden (open year-round)

2. The garden was opened on the University of Warsaw Library roof in 2002, spanning over the 1-hectare surface area.

3. It's one of the largest roof gardens in Europe accessible through an entry garden. The roof garden is divided into two parts. A cascading stream connects both parts (upper & lower parts).

4. The lower part includes a fish pond, with a bunch of ducks paddling around. Warsaw has a nice population of Mandarin ducks which are an exotic duck breed, so colourful. You might come across one of them stroking the lake waters.

5. There's a series of granite sculptures by Ryszard Stryjecki on cosmological themes.

Make sure that you check the hours correctly before you go there. To enter the library premises indoors, you must have a library card or a student's ID from the University of Warsaw.

Very nice park, with plenty of chairs and shade. Plus the added bonus of the rooftop part that makes it even more special even though the views are not spectacular.

There are also two coffee shops inside where you can get a drink or snack.

Enjoyed this more than the Science Museum across the street (where we had a 3-hour wait for ticket entry). Free to go up; enter from the park side outside the building (no elevator). Can enter the main library building hall with food/coffee shops, but access to the library stacks is restricted to students. Kids would enjoy. Fine for those scared of heights as only three floors up. Closed in winter.

A special place, no doubt. If you want to feel the atmosphere of studies, students, but also to experience calmness, peace, see beautiful views - the place is for you. Suitable for a short tour, free entry.
You enter a library building and take the elevator to the roof. You cannot enter the library itself, but you can get an impression of it from the roof. From there you can go down to the garden next to the library building and continue to enjoy nature.

The library was founded already in 1816 but the new library building was opened in December 1999. It has won numerous awards and prizes in architectural competitions.

To enter the library, you need to have the BUW library card. However, you can enter the entrance hall and from there have a glimpse of the interior.

The garden on the roof is open to a tourist. It is one of the largest and most beautiful roof gardens in Europe. However, the garden was closed during our visit because of some special event.

This building produced by a competition 15 years ago is very interesting. In fact what you visit is the roof garden very extensive and with beautiful views of the river. Access to the reading room is restricted to students and teachers only. Worth visiting

I was nicely surprised by the place. It is a big, nicely designed library, a lot of nice cafes inside and the most inspiring place - the roof! Great viewpoint from an amazing roof garden. Great place for a walk, a picnic and relax. That is a true example of sustainable use of space given.

Modern, finest architecture, sustainability, unexpected and cool are just a few words to describe this beautiful place.

Defiantly the biggest surprise of the holiday trip to Warsaw.

Works perfectly to visit with both friends and family and also fits for couples.

Visit on a sunny day!

A must see every time I'm in Warsaw. Something so mesmerising about this building. It doesn't take long, there used to be more activity inside too, but a little walk around the premises and you cannot help, but fall in love.

The Warsaw University Library is a terrific twenty first century architectural project. On its roof and all around the roof, a lot of greenery has been planted that forms a permanent green canopy over the library, conferring to it a unique appearance. In fact, the library roof-cum-surrounding-area is a landscaped botanical garden! The whole effect is one of exquisite beauty as it allows one to take refuge in nature and so relax and feel inner peace and serenity. Besides, the view from the botanical garden is magnificent, as the visitor has a panoramic view of Warsaw.

There is no entrance fee and one can visit the library garden on any day. All that one needs is good weather and plenty of time on hand.

The Warsaw University Library garden is one of the not-to-be-missed scenes in Warsaw.
