About
Devils@Cradle is a unique Tasmanian conservation sanctuary located at the entrance to the spectacular World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain National Park. Whilst we concentrate primarily on the Tasmanian devil, the sanctuary is also home to the closely related Spotted-tail and Eastern quolls. Tasmania’s three largest carnivorous marsupials are all now threatened in one way or another in the wild. Visitors to the sanctuary can view these animals from the comfort of the visitor centre, wander through the sanctuary at their leisure, or join a personalised guided tour which ensures a close up encounter with our animals. Your visit will provide an insight into the daily operation of a working conservation facility for one of the world’s iconic animals, knowing your ticket fee is contributing to our conservation of these species.

We went in the morning and soon realised this wasn’t the best time as nearly all the animals were sleeping. However we then joined the 10.30 tour which was excellent. Got to see all the animals. Chris was very knowledgeable and we walked away knowing far more and have a greater appreciation than when we arrived. Given the interactive experience of the tour I would recommend whatever time of day you go to get involved with a tour or experience.

G'day WG112,
Thanks for the 5 stars and great review. We definitely agree with your statement about joining onto one of our tours as animals are unpredictable and can either be hiding away or running wild first thing in the morning.
We will pass on your kind words to Chris :)
Thankyou for supporting our Sanctuary. We hope to have you back again someday.
Kind regards,
Devils@cradle Team.

Adorable animals in the area, and the guild is professional and knowledgeable enough to tell is the daily life of the animals. He tried his very best to show us the most best view of everything even it was a rainy night. Worth so much to drive long for a visit. Devils were so active during night time.

We booked into the 4pm joey encounter and did the 3pm keeper tour beforehand which I think was a great way to experience Devils at Cradle. Couldn’t recommend more highly - you get to see so much and learn a lot from very knowledgeable guides. A must do when you visit Cradle Mountain!

This sanctuary well exceeded our expectations and we’d thoroughly recommend it for people interested in the conservation of endangered species. The staff are dedicated to their cause, keen to impart their knowledge to all comers. The animals are in generous and well maintained enclosures.
The Twilight Feeding Small Group Tour was a highlight of our visit.

We visited the venue during the day, it was cold and raining but the juvenile devils were out running around having a ball. Great to see in the daytime even in bad weather. The daytime visit was included in the night time tour we did the 8:30 with Pru.
From the beginning you could see that Pru was very passionate about her job. The night time feeding was a lot of fun. Pru has a great lot of knowledge of the devils and Quolls and I love listening to someone who knows their stuff.
For a small fee the experience was amazing I cannot recommend it enough to see the devils and Quolls up close.

I was a little put off by the $20 admission but then reminded myself that it was funding the ongoing survival of orphaned wildlife.
This facility provides a great platform for tourists to see our great native animals without crawling through our bush at night on a maybe.
Recommend that this is a stop on your journey 👍

We were lucky enough that when we booked in for the night time feeding tour it had just started snowing at Cradle. So, not only did we get an awesome tour, we also watched devils in the snow (in summer!). The tour guide was very clear - an excellent amount of information - just enough simple facts to be memorable and interesting without overload. Great use of video plus verbal presentation to keep it engaging and accessible. The Devils are so noisy at night time, it was great to watch this and to learn about devils and the two endangered quoll varieties also cared for in this sanctuary. Devastating that the devils have this awful facial cancer and are now so endangered. I would absolutely highly recommend the evening tour to others. Well worth it!

We visited when the place was covered in snow which made it difficult to even leave the hotel, but were very glad we did. We were pretty much the only ones there but had a good chat to a keeper and managed to have a good interaction with quite a few Tassie Devils who we found to be very cute. Also saw a Eastern spotted Quoll, something I had never seen before. Being there during all the snow turned out to be very memorable and a highlight. Great combustion heater with a fan in building was very much appreciated. We purchase a general entry $75 ticket.

We really enjoyed our time at Devils @ Cradle. This is kind of a difficult review as I don't know if I would have gone five stars if we didn't do the sunset experience. Don't get me wrong the general walkaround the animal areas were interesting but the sunset experience was amazing. since it was starting to head into the evening all the animals were out and it was wonderful to see the level of interaction in each of their living areas. It was clear that our guide loves her job and her enthusiasm just added another level. If you have the opportunity to jump into one of the experiences I would highly recommend it.

Thanks for your review J6517DBstevenf, our sunset experience is certainly one of a kind and we are happy to hear you made it onto one of our tours to enjoy our Sanctuary as much as we do :) We are very passionate about our wonderful Tasmanian Wildlife and it is joyous to hear that that shows to visitors such as yourself. Thank you again!
We hope to see you again soon :)

We timed our day visit for the keeper talk and were pleased we did. Danielle's talk was so interesting and knowledgeable, making our visit meaningful and informative. It was great to see (and hear!) the devils as well as the two species of quolls. A fantastic sanctuary and breeding programme.

Is there a lot of walking involved in this tour ? We are booked to do this tour tonight but I have hurt my back and experiencing difficulty walking.

No, not at all. You could sit on the deck and see the devils, however it is a short walk to see the quolls but a flat walk

Hi! Can we book the joey experience on a site like tripadvisor or expedia group? I would prefer it that way as I trust these websites. Could not find it. Thanks!

Hi there, currently these tours are not available to book through Trip Advisor or Expedia, as we are still awaiting for them to go through these platform's approval and publishing process (which can take time). Currently this tour can only be booked online (if you are self-booking and not groing through a travel agent), directly through our own website, or with the sanctuary directly, over the phone or via email.

Under 3 is free. The park also has baby change facilities in the bathroom.

Hi,
we'd like to see the devils while we're in Tasmania and heard about the Devil @ Cradle. My question, because I don't like zoos because of this reason: is it like a big wildlife park where the devils have enough space and time for themselves? And how do they do the night feeding? Do the Devils come there by themselve?
Thank you very much!
Written 12 July 2018
Hope I'm not too late for your trip, I would describe the Devils@Cradle more as a sanctuary than a zoo. The young devils which are the main feature of the night feeding I believe were all bred at the sanctuary and one of the primary roles of Devils@Cradle is to assist with protection from the facial tumour decease ravaging the wild population and to assist with reintroduction of devils where possible, the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and clearly have a massive affinity for the devils and if you go I guarantee that they'll become your favourite marsupial, this was one of the highlights of our Tassie trip ..... make sure you dress warm for night feeds, it gets very chilly

Hi Kerry,
It is highly recommended to book in advance for our After Dark Feeding Tours, and this can be done either online on our website, via email, or over the phone as well.
If you would like to make a booking, please feel free to contact us.

Do you have after dark feeding tour in April?
Written 2 July 2017
We were there in early April...lthere was a subset feeding then an after dark. I recommend the sunset (earlier one) because while nocternal you saw a lot of activity...not a lot of lighting up of the free run areas so better with the sun set option.

Is there a chance to pat a Tasmanian Devil during the day keeper tours or after dark feeding tours?
Written 5 February 2017
Devils@Cradle
Sheffield, Australia
Hi there,
Despite their fiesty reputation the devils are actually quite a timid animal. Whilst the ones in the facility are fairly used to people handling of the Tasmanian devils can be stressful for them, so we do not handle them on the Day Keeper tours or the After Dark Feeding Tour.
