Pozan's Cathedral (and chapel) are on Cathedral Island, a short but clearly signposted walk from the Old Town. It's the oldest part of Poznan, Ostrow Tomski, built in the 10th century on an island in the marvellously named river Warta. It's had to be rebuilt several times due to damage from different fires, so is a mish-mash of styles, but is a fine cathedral and free to visit. Undoubtedly one of Poznan's highlights.

One of the oldest cathedrals in Poland. Not very spectacular though, but an important historical place to visit anyways. Catacombs closes much earlier than the cathedral itself. no tower visit possible

Due to multiple destruction and rebuilding in the history, the Cathedral demonstrates a mixture of architectural styles.
The facade of the church is the majestic Gothic twin towers, while the back- southeast side retains the older Romanik style buildings.
The interior decoration is mainly Baroque, but the chapels have various decorations including some with Byzantine style.
Really appreciate and like this particular church.

This is one of the most understated church's in Poland yet it is one of the most important.
This is the place where Christianity started in Poland. I was lucky enough to be one of only 2 people visiting on the day I arrived, This Church is huge yet not as flashy as most Polish Churches.

It was a beautiful setting for the Poznan Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, which dominated the island of Ostrow Tumski. Also known as Cathedral Island, the oldest part of Poznan, Ostrow Tumski and surrounding sights were conveniently accessible via tram from the central part of the city and hotels.

The first polish kings of lesser Poland are buried in this crypt of this cathedral. It is a site of archaeological significance the tombs of the first king and prince of the polish kings were found in the crypt of this cathedral. Also of note is the huge baptismal font. Upstairs is the beautiful golden chapel done in the orthodox style which commemorates these kings dating from the 19th century.

I read about Poznan before we arrived and I was happy to visit the Cathedral.....and the devotion of the polish people in the Cathedral is imposible to forget

The cathedral is on a very large tract of land together with residences for the clergy . It is a very impressive building from the outside but inside appears less so. You need to buy tickets for your visit and can get them as you enter the cathedral.
