- David D1,212 contributionsA mound erected in the 1800’s to honour one of the Polish-Lithuanian patriots. The mound was erected as a memorial to Kosciuszko and his work for the liberation of these lands from the oppressors. The Austrians built a small fortress around it, and the mound itself gives great views of the city and the surrounding lands. It is worth a visit if in Krakow.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 26 November 2023
- N0bleGuyLondon, United Kingdom128 contributionsLong Winter Walk From Krakow Main TownWe had to walk through a winter wilderness from the main town all the way to the mound, including through the small forest which was eerily quiet but very picturesque. The paths were all marked and there were others around, but I'm glad we did it in the morning as it would've been interesting getting back in the early fading light of winter. The mound itself was interesting - snow and ice and no handrails, so watch out of you suffer from vertigo! Entry was 48 zloty for two of us, so under £5 each. Views from the top were pretty awesome - loads of mist could be seen in the mountains to the East, and there's a huge power station dominating the Krakow skyline to the North of the city which I wasn't expecting.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 December 2023
- Phaedra SThessaloniki, Greece34 contributionsWonderful view! You have to pay a small ticket (24 szt) to climb up the hill which includes a nice, small museum of the history of the place and the Polish leader Tadeusz Kościuszko. The walk up the hill is short, no more than 5 minutes and the view across Krakow is wonderful. It wasn't crowded when we visited because it was a rainy day and so we enjoyed the walk up and down. You can get there by bus (check the hours, not so often) or you can go hiking through a wonderful forest-park.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 August 2024

The walking path up to the Kopiec Kosciuszki is quite nice to have walk. However, the panoramic view of the city which you obtain is not worth paying so expensive ticket price.
Also, it is necessary to have handrails and direction signs on the climbing narrow path for pedestrians in order to have more safe walk.

Kościuszko Mound is an artificial mound not so far from the city centre, about 5 minutes by car from the castle. If you are interested about the life of the Polish national leader Tadeusz Kościuszko you will be satisfied because there is a museum under the mound. You have to pass from the museum in order to go at the top.
from the top you can see a nice view of Krakow, that in my opinion is main reason to visit this place.

Built on St Bronisława Hill Kosciuszko Mound was built in three years, and work began in 1820. It stands 34.1 m and contains soil from the battlefields of the Kościuszko Uprising and the US War of Independence. We have went there by foot from Main Old Town Square and it took us 1 hour nice walk. You can admire great view from there- it is worth to go there without doubt.

The only way to be able to go up the mound is to pay to see the museum. As we'd already traveled there by bus, we thought we may as well pay up. The museum isn't very big and what's there was of no interest to us. Nice view from the mound, but that's it.

We enjoyed walking up to the mound and then climbing the mound itself. The history behind it is pretty interesting and the ticket includes the museum entry and mound climb. Loads of school trips here which made it a bit tricky as it was very busy! Worth it for the views though.

If you find yourself at the foot of Wawel Hill by the river, keep on the path towards the Sheraton Hotel.Keep going for over a mile until you run out of path. You will see an opening at the wall on your right.Go through that and you will come to a main road.Cross the road , turn left and keep on going . You will eventually come to a tram turn around .Cross that and an adjoining small street , you will then come to the next street where you will see the Mound signposted. It is all up there from there. There are street vendors on the way up if you need water etc
It's a long walk but if you are of average health it should be no problem.Otherwise it would be best to take a bus there.
Once there at the Mound be careful of the edge ,as it's a long drop.
You get a fine view from the Mound. You will then notice it from every angle of the city
We rewarded ourselves with a wiessebier at the cafe situated there. It was good to visit this important historical sight

Walk from Salwator tram is all uphill.
Get bus 100 or 101 and walk back (down hill)
Walk was worth it as the view from the top of the mound is sensational (was a clear day)
We got bus 101 back down to the river (opposite castle)
The views over Krakow are brilliant.
It also blows the cobwebs away.
