About
One of the most famous of Poland's churches, this Gothic structure features two striking towers of different heights and surprisingly richly decorated insight, mostly thanks to the vibrant polychromy by great Polish artist Jan Matejko. The greatest masterpiece is though the Main Altar by Veit Stoss - a late Gothic illustration for St. Mary's and Jesus life, including scenes of Mary's death and Assumption. Please note that the church, including Main Altar, is currently under long maintenance and renovation works, which may be of some inconvenience.

What a stunning church this is. It was out of this world. It was breathtaking to see such a beautiful building. And very cheap for a tour.

Arguably, the most famous and most characteristic church in Poland. It is a huge gothic basilica with unmistakable towers in the middle of equally huge Main Square (Rynek Glowny), the biggest of the kind in Europe. Nor surprisingly, for such a unique building it has been renovated to the point that is shines and glimmers. The biggest attraction surely is a priceless medieval triptych over the altar made by a German artist Wit Stwosz. The whole experience is very moving and is also a prove how rich and colorful life must have been in those, supposedly dark, ages. There is a fee. It is a MUST.

Spectacular art, architecture and stained glass. This is one church not to walk by, worth the admission.

We have traveled to many countries and cities and seen many, many churches but St. Mary’s Basilica is the most beautiful to date! The polychrome interior murals are absolutely stunning; so vivid. The ceiling is breathtaking.

From the outside the church is already somewhat special with its two towers of different height. But wait till you get inside, the decorations are stunning! If you have a few minutes to spare, make sure to walk in here as well to admire the beauty.

This cathedral is beautiful inside and out. It is huge and you can appreciate the size and elegance of it as you approach. As with any cathedral the decorative style is fascinating and so detailed.

Inside it is full of colour. The ceilings are huge and the colour gets you everywhere you turn. It really is a beautifully decorated and kept building.

You can go in for free but have to pay to go higher. We did not pay but it would be worth it if you had good weather and wanted to see more

This is a beautiful building in the main square of Krakow old city. The ticket office is on the right hand side as you face the main doors - you can buy a ticket for either the church itself or the tower but be aware that the tower one doesn't cover the church too, you need both. Tower tickets are timed entrance as it is a narrow staircase with very limited room at the top.
The main church is ok in a very gaudy and gilt way, if you like bling then you'll love it otherwise it's rather over the top! The altar is a superb carving but again, the gold paint spoils it in my opinion and it would look far better in naked wood.
The tower has around 270 steps and some of the staircases are narrow but there are impressive views over the top. We were in the tower longer than the actual church but it was certainly worth the £7 it costs to do both.

St. Mary's is famous for its Gothic altarpiece which was incredible. The whole interior of the church was gorgeous. This definitely ranks among my top 10 favorite churches. My two favorite are St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague and Notre Dame in Paris but this would rank right below them. I am always a sucker for a great Gothic church and this one is brick too!

The St. Mary's bell tower is quite a bit taller than the town hall bell tower. The views are good but the glass windows are shut which made it not quite as nice for taking photos. It is still well worth the climb, though. Tower tickets are limited so get them in the morning right away.
