St. Florian's Gate is a pretty cool Gothic tower/gate house. There are some short remnants of the old city wall you can walk along if you get an entry ticket and a barbican out front you can visit as well. The best part is really just seeing the tower from the street.

The St Florians Gate is further to the old city than the Barbican fortress - it is the real city gate once you had entered through the fortress.
It was built in the Middle Ages to prevent attacks from outside enemies; and named after the saint who is also the namesake of the church a bit further north.
Krakow used to have 47 towers in the walls; of which only 3 remains today.
The inside of the gate has a small chapel dedicated to the Madonna; but most interesting are the small ornaments found in the ground on the exterior if the gate - absolutely impossible to find an explanation for these?
Today it marks a beautiful entry to the medieval part of the town - quiet paved streets.

This medieval beauty is a reminder from what the old city was during centuries and how were the defenses against attacks.
Don’t miss the opportunity to cross the gate walking around and enjoying the different points of view.

This Gothic 34.5 meter-high gateway tower is located across from the Barbican, to which it was once connected via a drawbridge over the city moat.
The tower was erected in 1307 and is the most important of the city's eight medieval gates of the city's ancient defenses which once circled the medieval Old Town.
We used this stunning gate as an entry from the railway station to the Old Town and Florianska Street leading us to the market square where our hotel was located.

I visited KrakĂłw recently. The guy running an exchange office located just beyond the Florienska Street Gate and next to Beirut falafal restaurant on the left charged me 25% commission for 100 dollar and gave me 300 zlt instead of 400. I demanded my money back but he did not return it. Besides, he refused to give me the payment document. Do you think it is a fair trade?
By the way, there are other offices with 0% commission with fair trade.

The monumental gate of San Floriano, built during the fourteenth century, is part of the ancient fortifications protecting the city and is located just behind the Barbican, effectively marking the entrance to what was once the Royal Way. Noteworthy in the center of the tower is the Baroque sculpture of St. Florian, and inside the passage the small altar dedicated to the Madonna delle Sabbie. To this day it represents the most suggestive access route to the historic center.

Dating back to the 15th century, this is what remains of the powerful fortification, approximately 3 km long and made up of 47 towers, eight gates and a moat. The Gate of San Floriano represented the official entrance, it opened the Royal Path, along which rulers and courtiers reached the Wawel. In the 19th century, with the modification of the city's protection systems, the surrounding walls were destroyed. Despite his age he still makes a great impression

Historical gate. Take a walk and appreciate the history and atmosphere. There are artists selling paintings nearby. Otherwise there is nothing else to see but definitely worth visiting. I really enjoyed walking around and taking in the atmosphere on a busy Easter Sunday.

The main entrance gate of the old city. The tower and the passage gate underneath it, built in Gothic style to protect against Tatar attacks in the 13th century. A very well preserved, beautiful historical monument. It opens to one of the most beautiful streets of the old city of the same name and takes you directly to the main square.

Ancient entrance gate to the city inside which the statue in honor of San Floriano is visible. You can also see a part of the old walls (area with the museum where the lady with an ermine is exhibited). From here Florianska street leads to the square.

Does the florianska gate lead out on to the planty circuit?
Written 22 October 2017
Yes. The park encircles the old town (tourist area) so you can reach Plenty Park from anywhere in the square. Florianska Gate is at the edge of the tourist area so if you go beyond it you will reach the park. Go online and see for yourself.
