About
The Rynek Underground exhibition presents not only Krakow’s rich history, but also the connections between the city and mediaeval Europe’s chief centres of trade and culture. Moreover, it portrays the significance of the capital of Poland in the operation of the Hanseatic League. The real historical objects on display, just to mention 14th-century coins, decorations, and pottery, are proof of the European cultural and trade exchange that continued here incessantly for hundreds of years. The tourist route under the Main Market Square leads between the stone and brick walls of the cellars of former trading sites, including the Kramy Bolesławowe Stalls, Kramy Bogate Stalls, the Great Scales, and the Cloth Hall. Opening hours: Winter season (November – March) Monday, Wednesday - Sunday 10.00-20.00 Tuesday 10.00-16.00 Summer season (April – October) Monday 10.00-20.00 Wednesday - Sunday 10.00-22.00 Tuesday 10.00-16.00 Exhibition is closed on every second Monday of the month.

I went in to this museum when it was recommended to me by a local tour guide and I’m so glad I did , because of Covid everyone had to wear gloves inside as alot of the information was on interactive touch screens. I spent about three hours in the museum .Lots of interesting things to look at and lots of information to read on the touch screens .While I was there not many people actually bothered with the touch screens but if you do there is lots of information about the exhibits .The selections of short films you can watch at the end of the exhibition were very interesting and gave you a lot of information about the history of Krakow .Great museum if you make the effect to use the interactive screens on offer to understand what you are looking at .

I popped into here earlier today and overall spent about 1.5 hours. But most of that time was spent in the last part of the exhibition on interesting videos on Krakow’s history, as these had English subtitles. As for the rest of the exhibition, while it’s quite large and there are English touchscreens throughout, there are some videos that could have used English translations. They said there are minimal English translations on other placards. The antivampiric activity for example in the 10th-11th century graveyard under Rynek was fascinating to read about.

This is at a far end of the Cloth Hall and as you might expect it is an underground museum. When you are down there you see the different levels of the ages of the city and the way one era has been built on top of the other.

Worth a visit and unless you read everything will be no more than an hour.

The museum is clearly very modern and well thought through. The main problem was the lack of explanation. We had practically no idea what we were looking at or what the museum was trying to display.

Creatively and (generally) well presented using a good mix of video, interactive screens, info boards and exhibits. It’ll keep your attention all the way round. A must for history fans, especially medieval. Fascinating insight with “ in situ” archaeology. We spent 2 hours at a relaxed pace: could easily take over 3 hours if you read everything. Plenty to see. Arrived at opening time and bought tickets for immediate entry. Not sure if this is always possible.
One star reluctantly deducted because some info boards are very difficult to read in the low light and there is no English language version of the excellent looking guide book.
Well worth visiting at any time, not just on a rainy day.

Our co-worker said “visit the catacombs” under the main square. I had been to the museum under the square several years earlier - so I was curious. It turned out - they are the same place. Still - thoroughly enjoy the history of Kraków and the well done exhibits of the museum. Will come back again with the rest of the family.

Absolutely fantastic visit last night, we arrived about 3 hours before the museum was due to close and managed to run out of time!

Staff were very friendly and helpful, and they were able to provide us with a wheelchair for one of our party who needed it.

Archaeology is really well displayed and there is a lot of detailed information about the history of Krakow as a trade centre.
