- BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia20,004 contributionsBeautiful despite constructionsGdansk has an amazing location by the river Motlawa with two small river islands in the very center. On the continental side is the terrific old town with its restored Mannerism houses, Churches and picturesque streets, as well the city icon - Old Crane. On the islands are mostly new built apartment houses in similar, but modern style, which perfectly blend with the old ones. Day, but specially at night, it's a great pleasure to walk around and admire the sites, despite the ongoing renovation and construction works which will even more improve the area when finished.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 April 2024
- petergab10Melbourne, Australia682 contributionsBeautiful part of GdanskBeautiful part of the Gdansk to visit day or night which offers so much history on one side you have the old-style architecture buildings and the beautiful Old Crane which has undergone renovation work recently. River embankment renovation work is being done at the moment which does take away from the beautiful view you once had. It's still possible to take the Galeon Lew pirate ship to Westerplatte. On the other side of the river, you have the new apartments which do blend in. Soldek museum ship, large Gdansk sign, AmberSky observation wheel. Both sides offer so much from restaurants, cafes, bars, boutique shops, amber shops, museum, hotels. With so many photo opportunities.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 5 May 2024
- Martina MNingbo, China53 contributionsWalk & watchGreat walk along the riverside, however currently one part Is under construction. Once it Is ready, there Is a splendid technically unique bridge - every half an hour it Is connecting the banks for pedestrians to cross, the other half an hour it Is hidden in the middle od the river si the boats can go. Anyway - excellently rebuilt from ruins, in an old&modern way. Lovely Vibe, just Grab your coffee or a cup of hot chocolate & enjoy. Or, if you are more adventurous, you can try kayak or other water vehicle for rent, to take a ride in the riverVisited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 May 2024
- Robert D4,725 contributionsNice place for a walk, be careful of the constructionThis is a nice place for a walk. However, construction makes the path narrow in places. The building in my photo is an actual harbour crane, built in the 15th century to load and unload cargo from ships.Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten 24 September 2024

Długie Pobrzeże is a favorite place for walks of Gdańsk residents and a must-see in the itinerary of trips to Gdańsk. The Long Embankment was created from the piers that were located in front of each water gate and were used to unload goods. Over time, the piers were connected with each other and thus a boulevard was created.

The most classic, apart from Neptune and the Long Market with the Main Town Hall, is the picture in Gdańsk. Usually overcrowded with tourists, even in a difficult time covid-19. It is not surprising - it is a beautiful view with an old medieval crane dominating the Motława River.

One of my favourite things about Gdańsk was walking along the waters edge both on a morning and an evening. Perfect for people watching, restaurants and bars. The crane is cool to check out and the basilica stands proud slap bang in the middle. Good fun crossing over the bridges too and the ones that lift up and swivel out are enjoyable to witness. Tonight we rode on the amber eye Ferris wheel for beautiful views for miles around. Head here for a walk around and you won’t be disappointed. We found everything to be cheap and didn’t feel at all threatened or pestered when away.

The Motlawa Embankment is one of the most important sites in Gdańsk, as it was one of the most important Hanseatic cities with extensive maritime connections. The two banks of the Motlawa in the Old Town area (in the modern sense) are strikingly different. If the houses of the West Bank have a completely medieval appearance (after reconstruction), then the eastern shore on the so-called Warehouse Island is built up with modern houses and hotels. The matter is most likely explained by the fact that the Red Army attacked at the end of March 1945 not from the east, where bastions and prepared defenses awaited it, but from the rear, from the west. The 4th Panzer Division of the Wehrmacht retreated from the Old Town to Skladskaya Island, which was hit by direct fire from Soviet artillery and bombed by attack aircraft. As a result, almost nothing remained on the eastern shore. Many of the buildings built here are stylized as half-timbered, although it is clear that they are modern. The most noticeable thing on the embankment on the western bank is an unusual building, which I did not get to due to severe time pressure. This is a Zhurav crane gate - a city gate with a lifting mechanism function. This is the largest crane of its type in Europe. Hidden inside the building are two pairs of 6-meter drums with a lifting capacity of up to 4 tons. The crane was driven by four workers. The crane was capable of lifting cargo to a height of 10-20 meters. This was necessary, for example, to replace masts on galleons. Obviously, the best panorama of the embankment is obtained from the eastern shore. Just opposite the St. Mary's Gate.

Such a beautiful, charming, and quaint river walk. Plenty of eateries, cafes, and shops (amber galore), but also lovely buildings. Sunset is particularly pretty, and probably better in low season to avoid crowds--you just have to bundle up for the cold weather!

One of two main tourist areas of the city, the embankment is lined with beautiful and historic buildings which have been (or are being) restored. Where the original buildings were totally demolished there are some newer buildings too. There are signs that show how the area has been under redevelopment since the end of World War II. There are boat tours leaving from here and it’s fun to just watch boats even if you don’t go on one. So entranced by this area of the city, we chose our hotel to be closer to this area than the main walking street.

A great place where you can walk without the end. Everyone will find something for themselves. Beautiful tenement houses, restaurants, boat rides. And lots of people every evening, it's a bit quietly during the day :)
