The station from the outside is really beautiful. This train station in Gdansk, build in the so-called. "Gdansk Renaissance" style , is one of the most recognizable buildings in the city. For the first time the train left the Gdansk station in 1852. The station received a facade of red brick and white sandstone. The station was set on fire in March 1945, all rooms and structures suffered. To this day, this station plays a key role in the functioning of the city because all tram, bus and rail connections meet here.

This is the kinda Railroad Station which other Railroad Stations get jealous about. It's a prime example of the German architecture of Gdansk and is exceptionally well preserved and taken care of. The inner working of the building are know to be quite chaotic, though after renovations that will hopefully be rectified somewhat. It's the first building I see when arriving and the last building I pass while leaving by train or bus.

There is a small metal
Building close to the original depot that is being used for tickets and it’s always busy.! Get your tickets online if you can! We did use the ticket agent but she didn’t understand that we wanted a family ticket. Hopefully it will be better when the renovations are over!

The good? The building itself is very impressive, centrally located and we'll served with transport links.
The bad? All of the main buildings were shut for refurbishments and the information available was confusing and annoying.
The ugly? If you travel with the wrong ticket (and it is easily done), expect no mercy from the conductors at al who gleefully crucify any lost foreign tourists.
NB. If you can get your phone to work in Gdansk, use Uber taxis rather than the overcrowded buses and the slow/erratic trams. Buy SKM local train tickets from the kiosk on platform four. Make sure to double check what you are told and what you are given at the ad hoc ticket office in the prefab next to KFC. They have a palpable disregard for customers in general and foreigners in particular.

50 minutes in a que. Information which should work till 9pm closed already at 7.
Huge city, lots of tourists and TWO desks open.
Not mentioning that return travel by train (3 persons) from Leba to Gdańsk costed four times more than by car and lasted twice more time. Very encouraging to take care about environment.
Last time I used public transport in Poland- stressful and dreadful experience.

The station is very beautiful from outside but it has been undergoing renovations inside for more than 2 years, as my friends said. Due to it, when you want to catch a train, you just go to some underground passage and enter the platforms, there is no big sign showing which trains arriving at which platform, there is no place to sit, no shops. I had to ask at the cashier which platform my train would arrive, as I did not find information about it in the app. Plan extra time!

I know that many reviews criticize the station but if you want to visit it merely as a beautiful structure, it is worth a view. It is really, really beautiful!! I did not take a train either into or out of the station but rather jogged though the underground tunnels and accidentally realized that I was at the station. Take a moment and enjoy the fact that, at one point in human history, we cared about how our functional buildings looked.

Seeing the station in Gdansk for the first time, I had a feeling of “déjà vu”. It reminded me of the station in Antwerp, but I was wrong. Having read about him later, I realized that I had previously seen his twin brother in Colmar, France. Why is that? Because at the beginning of the 20th century, when the Germans handed over the station in Danzig, which was then Gdansk, they simultaneously built a station in Colmar, which, as you know, is located in French Alsace, annexed by Germany following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71, which was miserably lost French. Kaiser Germany, as an assertion of its dominance, built iconic buildings in Alsace like Kaiserburg Castle or train stations in Colmar or Metz. Of course, now, more than a century later, the station in Danzig has stylistic differences in details, but the similarities in the project as a whole are quite obvious. Since the station was undergoing renovations, it was not impressive with the interior, because... For this reason, the ticket offices were located outside the station. From the station you can take Eurocity trains to Vienna and Berlin. Intercity trains run to major cities in Poland: Szczecin, Poznan, Warsaw, Krakow, Katowice, Wroclaw, Lodz. I went to Malbork. Regional trains are suitable for this; in our opinion, electric trains. It is inexpensive, quite fast and comfortable. Although Gdansk is the largest city on the Baltic coast, all trains pass from Gdynia or to Gdynia. Therefore, the topology of the station is clear. This, however, does not cause any particular difficulties. You'll have time to get off or on the train...

It's a train station, that looks nice from the outside.
Very easy to get to, be it on the level of the street or below.
Main reason for writing, left luggage lockers are there. Various prices, I think 18pln to 26pln for 24 hours storage. Once opened must pay again. coins and credit cards can be used. The largest lockers can fit two suitcases (we had a medium and a large suitcase in one.) Plenty of lockers but not many of the largest ones.

Looks great from the outside, an old fashioned design. Inside it is a functional train station mostly serving Poland. Can be a busy place. There are some cafes and a place to buy food to take with you.

Are lockers still available during the pandemic and if so, can I pay card or only cash? Thanks!

Is there a first class lounge in gdansk main railway station?
Written 11 July 2018
There was no lounge area evident when we visited.
There was a cafe/restaurant on the lower level where people seemed to relax/wait for long periods.

I will be with my three teenage kids in March. We'll want to go from gdansk to Krakow to Zakopane and back to Gdansk. Not sure if rental car or trains are best. Any suggestions
Written 12 February 2018
I have only used the trains so I cannot comment which would be best but the trains are very cheap !
I hope this helps. There are timetables and prices on line. Also near Gdansk is a short train ride to Sopot on the coast which is lovely, Kraków and Gdansk are beautiful.

Hello,
Im new in this stuff so I think I need some help. I have a bus ticket from Berlin to Gdansk, by Flixbus, and it says that the arrival is at 5.50 am. My question is: is it safe to be alone at this place? Is it open? Are people already circulating in the station?
Thank you!

здравствуйте скажите, первый раз елу на автобусе в польшу, прибываб на автовокзал, как мне оттуда добраться до балтийской галереи? и новорят ли там на английском, где приобрести билет на проезд?
Written 12 April 2017
