- Robyn-and-John2,316 contributionsExcellent place to visitThe old town is always alive with people wandering around. There are dozens of sidewalk cafes and souvenir shops. It's a must to see and soak up the atmosphere. There are lots of cobblestone streets and the old buildings are spectacular.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 September 2023

- kitd1275Bergen, Norway477 contributionsFascinating townThe Gdansk Old Town is very nice. It has museums, a street market, lots of shops, pubs, bars, and restaurants. We went in December, so there was a Christmas market, and it was actually very nice to see. There were lots of Christmas-themed shops, and they even had a stage for some presentations along with plenty of Christmas decorations and lights.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 December 2023
- IlovetravelBirmingham, United Kingdom390 contributionsWonderful city breakWe visited Gdansk on a cruise and so were only here for 8 hours but what an incredibly beautiful city with so many superb bars and restaurants. The city has a fascinating history too, particularly the Hanseatic League days, check it out. Will definitely return for a long city break.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 December 2023
- Christine O21 contributionsBeautiful GdanskBeautiful city....not cheap and everything is in Zloty currency. I would recommend bringing Zloty with you or having a Revolut card. We were surprised at how expensive coffee shops and drinks were. Meals out are reasonably priced! Amazing cafes, bars and restaurants. Beautiful people who are so kind and polite to tourists. Fantastic museum's with anazing public transport. We got snow in the New Year for all our stay...stunning!!! We felt very safe there with our family.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 January 2024

- Bluesphynx1,616 contributionsVibrant river settingHad thought of skipping Gdansk as it's so far north but thank goodness found a group tour that takes us to this absolutely beautiful city with its tall narrow houses more like those in the Netherlands . Being restored or completely rebuilt doesn't take away its charm as it's so representative of its Hanseatic League legacy. The rich German heritage makes it quite unlike Wroclaw or Krakow. The lovely fish restaurants deliver the freshest cod at reasonable prices, the river location reminds us Singaporeans of our own Clarke Quay with its fancy restaurants and bumboats. Very touristy but so accessible and the shops selling amber may be pricey but at least they provide certificates of authenticity and have an amazing variety of designs.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 28 April 2024
- holiday032United Kingdom3,413 contributionsSo so picturesque. It’s hard to walk in a straight line while you’re in the Old Town as there is so much beautiful architecture and you are always looking up. Full of restaurants bars and souvenir shops and a really nice atmosphere. It was less busy during the week when we visited in mid April.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 April 2024
- Martina MNingbo, China53 contributionsEnjoy the vibeLovely walk through the old (or after war renewed) streets, lots to see & buy. You can spend as little as half an hour walking just the Dluga Street, but recommend to stay, get a coffee or drink or domě lovely meal, sit or walk And just enjoy the city spirit. Definitely go to the riverside - great Amsterdam -like vibe (currently one part under construction, but worth seeing anyway).Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 May 2024

The food, the walk across old town, the lovely architecture and lovely charm and music all around. This is the place to be. Old Town Gdansk. If you go to the WW2 museum you will see what the old town looked like after the Germans and Russians were finished with it
However since then the most careful and highly skilled reconstruction of the old town and surrounds has returned it to one of the most beautiful towns in Europe. The exquisite buildings and their facades combined with the pedestrian streets and ease of getting around makes the town perfect for at least two or more days of exploration. Museums , buildings of interest and of course the street full of Baltic Amber Jewellery shops and endless really good restaurants , coffee shops and bars make this an almost obligatory place to put on your travel list.

The old town's streets are perfect to take a stroll and to admire European architecture. This whole place was destroyed during the horrors of WWII but it admirable how they had rebuild the whole place again and I really appreciate the fact of how they didn't want to let go of their cultural heritage so they put a lot of efforts to rebuild it. A river flows through the old town and on the either sides of the banks, the houses look amazingly beautiful, their triangular roofs and red bricked walls add tranquility to the picturesque scene. The streets are lined with cobble stones which is a typical part of European history. Stockholm's old town has a very similar design and architecture.

The Old Town in Gdańsk is spectacular! I love the narrow streets, the old building and churches that you can stumble upon while just walking around. The river bank is just lovely!
We went there in December and it was very nice with all the decorations, the Xmas Fair. We would love to see the city in the summer - heard that kayaking on Motlawa is something completely different.

Gdansk's old town is one of the most beautiful of Poland. You'll never get tired of walking around appreciating the architecture. The vibe it's just incredible. You'll find a lot of history, nice cafes and restaurants. I visited the city during March and the weather was super crazy (sunny, windy, rainy and snowy, all during the same day). Not to mention the covid restriction but I'll definitely gonna be back during summer time.

Really enjoyed walking through this area in the late afternoon early evening. Winter, so many places were closed (and each would be a separate review anyway), but well worth spending the time to walk through and take this magnificent part of town in. Street signs to guide the way help.

Old Town is part of the Gdansk district of Srodmiescie. This is the oldest area of the city. When visiting Gdansk, you cannot miss this historic city center, which still captivates with its wonderful architecture and unique atmosphere. The representative historic part of Gdańsk is considered one of the most beautiful complexes of this type in Poland. Here you can see extremely valuable monuments from different periods, referring to many architectural styles, created for centuries by artists from around the world. Such a large and compact urban complex also has its own almost magical atmosphere. The entire Old Town of Gdansk is beautiful and really magical, it consists of impressive buildings with beautiful architecture and unique.

The touristic parts of town are very beautifully kept or restored. The buildings look great, the architecture is very interesting. You can see Gdansk went to great trouble to make the city as attractive as it can for visitors.
The old town and the newly renovated office area around the harbours are absolutely stunning, the way the modern architecture seamlessly flows into the old style houses and back again is a well planned piece of architecture that deserves a mentioning.
Bit of a shame that if you wander of into the more residential areas that the glory of the old town is not pulled into those parts. As soon as you step out of the tourist area you see heaps of garbage, run down places and houses that feel jealous of their cousins only a few streets away.
Gdansk is certainly worth your visit, see the old town, walk into the office area and do visit the other parts too.

Its been 30 years since I last visited and I was truly surprised and how rapidly Gdansk has grown and prospered. The old town is full of fine quality restaurants, shops, and beautiful historical buildings to explore. Several boat trips from the docks allow for day visits to nearby locations. A must see.

Stag weekend which overall was fantastic, it’s a beautiful place with plenty to do and not far from the beach. Loads of restaurants, bars & cafes. Just be aware later at night there is a very sinister side that comes out. Spiked drinks and constant pressure to get you into clubs which then rip you off

We're staying in Old Town for 2 days over Nov / Dec. Apart from the Christmas Markets, what would be the "must see" places for 2 adults and a 9 Yr old please?

Thinking of doing gdansk for 3 nights end of October, anyone recommend anywhere to stay in the old town or is their new town better?
Written 12 September 2019
Hi, either really as the old town or river side is only mins away from new town. A little pricer in the old town due to location. Old town is lovely and picturesque, new town less so. As for recommendations of where to stay, have a look on a well known booking site - can’t put the name TA won’t allow it! and cross reference on trip advisor, click on maps to check location too. Plenty of hotels and apartments to choose from within 5-10 minutes walking distance of the old town.
Definitely use the bus from the airport (bus stop across the road from the airport, bus no 210) as it takes about 30-40 mins and is approx 70p a ticket and the train to sopot whilst your in gdansk if you have the time ;-)
Hope that helps a little :-)

Coming through on October the 24th how much is a taxi from airport and how far from old town to sopot please. First time in gdanask. Any one recommend any nice restaurants and where to go for a nice breakfast.
Written 8 September 2019
Bus from Airport is cheap and easy - recommend or use Uber Taxi will be much more expensive. Pierogarnia Mandu is very good with reasonable prices. There is Georgian restaurant near the Dluga street very good but forgot the name.

Hello!
Is there any hostel in this area with female dorms or are all unisex?
Written 4 July 2019
You can try at Hotel Stay Inn, know they had while ago (a room with 6 beds), but don’t know 100% if they still have the concept.

Onko hostelleista tällä alueella naispaikkoja... kaikki mitä löysin oli yhteis/unisexpaikkoja?!

Hi thinking of booking up for a stag do is there plenty bars or clubs close by and would you recommend any hotels for large groups
Written 6 April 2019
Definately not suitable for a stag, it’s quiet there but I’ve been to Kraków that would be more suitable.

How do you get from Gdańsk airport to the old town?
Written 2 December 2018
Sorry for late response, we took a taxi, we had checked on line beforehand to get rough price. It was what we expected when we arrived, not too expensive but it's worth asking before you get in.
