- John W4 contributionsFantastic zooSplendid zoo in the middle of a Kashubian forest provides a perfectly secluded setting for a wide range of animals. Viewing areas are great for visitors and animals looked happy and well cared for. So refreshing that a zoo does not charge the earth for the visit, around £6 for what can easily be a full day's visit is amazing. There are restaurants on site and while we visited in the off season there is clearly further activities on during summer months. Be prepared to research the travel there as the bus is not straight forward (seems to only connect with the town of Oliwa, and thereafter we struggled a little on the tram (look out for small ticket machines and make sure you validate when you get on the tram (small punch hole machine by the doors). We got a taxi from Gdansk centre and it was about 60 zloty, which is certainly a lot easier!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 November 2023

We spent 3 hours on Oliwa Zoo. If you take bus, check the schedule before you go to the zoo.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 March 2024
- РНП0839 contributionsGreat place with a lot of animals to seeA really nice zoo where you can have a look at different animals-giraffes, penguins, kangaroos, reptiles. It is located on a hilly area with big space for the animals. There are vending machines all around the zoo. In April we couldn't see the tigers and lions because of the cold but nevertheless it was a great way to spend 3 hours in this spacious place. The ticket is 30 zloty which is a good price for a zoo of this kind. Have in mind the staff doesn't know any English and if you know Russian you have bigger chances to understand each other😄Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 April 2024

I was preparere in advance for some painful moments because i read some of the reviews here, but we decided to make it spart og our roadtrip anyway.
Plusses:
• Big park we used three hours here (and we tried to hurry since we had time schedule)
• Many different animals
• Cheap tickets (30 zloty for one adult)
• Vending machines around the park
Negatives:
• Many animals had too little space to live in it was very heartbreaking like for example the tiger, Lynx and some more
• Some of the animals were stressed around people and did not look happy at all (Even around workers)
• It was alot of noise from the building around the park witch i can only assume stressed and frightened the animals Even more.
Overall a quite heartbreaking experience for animal lovers because of the small Spaces and distressed animals. Also it was electric fences around animals that barely had any space before. I would not come back because of this.

The zoo is a big detour from the city center, therefore be mindful of the time to transit there. The zoo itself is very big, but there are. So. Many. Hills. The animal collection is also varied. Some of the enclosures could use a bit of love, specially the water elements. Some of the animals are very human friendly (like the giraffes and camels), so be mindful not to feed them.
The zoo plan is, according to us, too complex and requires too much backtracking to create an easy, streamlined experience while minimizing seeing things multiple times.

I am staying in gydsank and decided to visit the zoo. The bus stopped outside and it only took 40 minutes to get there. It was good value for money I only paid 3 pounds for entrance. I enjoyed seeing the animals and will go again when in gydsank

The Zoo is pretty large with a lot of path choices. For me though, the most simple and basic thing for zoos is to make sure animals are feeling well there, which really wasn't the case. We saw parrots with clear and apparent signs of depression (they were pulling their own feathers out of their skin, especially in the chest section, screeching nervously), we saw tigers kept in the smaller cages than wolves, we saw seals stacked on top of each other in something that doesn't reassemble anything, crocodiles kept in something that could be a hamster terrarium, and this is just from the top of my head. Overall great place, but with torturing animals like that I'm not really sure i can recommend this place to anyone.

I thought it was a nice zoo with lots of different animals and activities for both children and adults. You got to meet the animals quite close to them, but in the animal park in Krakow you could go inside with some of the animals, I missed that a bit here. Great place, a place I would recommend a visit to.

Was very disappointed visiting this zoo. Some encloses were huge and then the next ones were tiny. The elephants were distressed and rocking side to side which was hard to watch and didn’t want to be there after seeing the animals like that. We also were hungry when we got there and found it only had vending machines. There was no restaurants open. We didn’t stay long and I wouldn’t recommend

I didn't go there with much expectations. It's still a Polish zoo. But the Oliwa zoo was a positive surprise. Many animals, mostly visible and outside. Only lions had a day off. Toilets around every corner and I mean not only bushes, but like real water closets. Generally a wide and nice collection of animals.
To see the dinos you have to climb up the hill. I don't know why. The kids loved it, I hated it. But because they can't legally vote yet, then it's a win for hate.
Parking is not the cheapest - 30 zloty for a day. That's like 2 four-packs of Polish beer. And the parking machines operating only in Polish. Like I were in Poland...
If you are in the 21 century and pay with card, then don't waste time standing in the ticket line. They have ticket machines there too. Shocking...

Our family liked the zoo. This is the first large zoo we visited. There are a lot of different animals, a picturesque area, excellent areas for animals. There are various cafes and places to relax.
The entire detour took us about four hours.

Hi, Jetting off to Gdansk for my first time now on Saturday, would love to check out the zoo just wondering what its like transport wise from the Old Town. Anyone able to help me out?
Many Thanks
Written 4 June 2019
Transport didn't seem all that obvious, but Uber is very cheap there. That was my lazy solution.
Written 5 June 2019
It is open everyday 9 AM - 3PM. But you should go to at least 12-1PM because is a huge zoo.
