Wallachian Open Air Museum

The little wooden town embodies the distinctive spirit of vernacular Moravian municipal architecture of the late 19th and early 20th century.

Very interesting but as we visit during week and out of main season then a lot of was closed. As most probably will be much better during season and weekends. One positive was that we have been nearly alone.

Great to learn some more about the way of life in Valassko in the past. There were no english guides available, but we received a small booklet with texts in English which we could use during the visit.

We loved our walk through the park with its wooden village. I was impressed by the "Slavin" surrounding the wooden church with graves of famous local patriots. Two olympic gold medal winners E.Zatopek and L.Danek are burried here.

We were lucky to be taken to this place by our Czech family, there is no way we would have ever been able to visit it without them. Its a full day out, lots to see and do. Beautiful original houses have been relocated to this open air museum, its like stepping back in time. Great day out would definitely... More

This museum is divided into three parts. The Mill Town is particularly good, with various working mills including a steel mill. The other sections have lots of old wooden buildings and there are often people in costume. Look out for special events, There is also a little theatre where concerts take place. If you are interested in folklore of any... More

Our family of six spent an afternoon here on a fine summer day. The entrance fee was quite reasonable for our family of 6 -- about US$15 -- which enabled entry to the entire complex. We had to wait about an hour to join a guided tour of the Mill section. We spent this time in the wooden town across... More

Having visited here 17 years ago we were keen to take up an opportunity to explore again the water wheel technology that we had so enjoyed then. It is a mistake to return to the ace of great memories. Although the museum has grown greatly thanks to Norwegian money and it is much more organised and proficient, it has lost... More

We did the Village and the farm exhibits...very impressive how they have maintained the old buildings with very informative explanations. I felt like we stepped back in time. We came to Roznov only because we are from Texas and our farm is on Roznov Road, as a Czech from this European town settled in Texas in the 1800s. Seeing these... More

Would not recommend this place if it was raining or looked like it was going to, but when the Sun is shinning it was just on 4 hours well spent walking around while being able to read the English Information Plaques outside each exhibit really helped. The place comes recommended.
