This is extraordinary museum where you can either see exhibits or touch them and feel yourself like a miner decades ago. After using a shaft-lift you will walk through real drills with real machines accompanied by dummies dressed like miners. I recommend the visit warmly.

I had no idea that coal was such an industry in Ostrava, and is still used to heat so many homes in the Czech Republic. I never really understood coal mining, and its dangers, until I visited this museum and tour of the actual mine....More

The trip to the underworld of the abandoned mine is fascinating. The guides are former miners themselves, so they have understanding of the topic and passion for it. Not recommended for claustrophobic people, you literally feel the weight of the earth over your head.
