Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have not been in Olomouc for a long time. On Wednesday, September 16, I saw the renovated town hall tower, the top was placed here in July this year.

The town hall is under repairs and we didn't see the world famous clocks. The rest of the square with its Unesco heritage building is awe inspiring.
We visited the Bishop's Palace, Jesuit Church of St. Mary of Snow, the cathedral with its 3 spires, & also the art museum.
The place is amazing.
It is clean and friendly.

I was taken by this Czeck City on my first visit. If you go to the Czeck Republik, spend a few days (3-5) in this old capital of MORAVA (the unknown part of Czeck Republik). This University city has the highest population of English speaking and the lowest part of tourists in Czeck Republik (if you ask direction you will get help - in English. I met Gabrielle-homeless and ENGLISH speaking, a lady of misfortune.
If you are interested in architecture, here is a concentration of Middelage and Barock buildings, the best fortification walls, and the best Original Pilzner Restaurant -DRAPAL-in the world. If you like City-Walks don't miss this secret gem. In the summer time the townhall square is a wonderfull place to take a cup of coffee or a cool drink. The local museum is the old baracks from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The city was in the frontline of long forgotten battles. And accomodation is cheap!
So Are beer and food and icecream. And it is only 2 hours away from Prag in airconditioned luxury train. Go here before the mainstream Tourist find it.

The town hall was under renovation during my visit, it was under the scaffolding so I couldn't see almost anything of the building (the astronomical clock incuding) . It wasn't possible to go in and take a tour or visit the tower. Maybe next time I'll have more luck.
The information center in the town hall building was in operation, but finding the entrance was not easy because it was "hidden" in the construction site.

Simply beautiful.
The building, the astronomical clock, the socialist mosaic works.
There is so much history to be found here!

Very well preserved Town Hall in a very well preserved square of a very nice town. A must see if you visit Olomouc. The iconic Astronomical Clock is on one side of the Town Hall.

The town hall has an astronomical clock on its front side that was destroyed by the Nazi and rebuilt during the post war years with a communist influence and theme. The nearby plague tower, the largest anywhere, has a very interesting history. This entire central square is clean and beautiful. There is also an information center and an Italian restaurant is the town hall building.

This year (2016) I was in the fair city of Olomoc.
I was there 3.-5. of May and I experienced a feeling of the past and the present.
I alway go to the Town Square as the fist thing.
I stood still for some time and listened to people speaking in Czeck from a rostrum.
I asked what happend and was told, that every year all the 1600 names of jews from Olomouc killed in koncentration camps was read,
and I could get a paper in English with 6 names of murdered jews.
I read the names of 6 older women. It was hard; I thought about my mother.
I am not jewish, but in Denmark we have a noble history of saving jews.
I suddenly experienced that saving jews was not the norm.
I stayed till the end of the reading and walked in the city.
Now I understood what the brass bricks on the pavement signify.
1600 brass bricks with the name and fate of each killed Olomoc jew.
The feeling I had is worth a trip to Olomouc Czeck Republick.

When I heard we were planning stop in Olomouc for lunch on our way to Prague from Krakow, I had no idea what to expect since I'd never heard of Olomouc. What a great surprise to find this lovely old square with its town hall, chapel, column & fountains. I was only here for lunch (at the very good Moravska Restaurant right on the square) but I wished I could have stayed longer.

The tourist office organises "in a nutshell" (hour long) trips round the square and up the Tower. It's the best way to start a trip to Olomouc because you can see what there is and decide what to do.
