The area
Neighbourhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred metres long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theatres. National Theatre near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

I liked the opera building with amazing paintings very much. It worth to visit, even if there's no big play. We attended a relatively short classic music concert for an hour, and play was very nice. Although the auditorium wasn't full, spectators liked the play a lot. Recommended place to visit

Excellent experience. Booked tickets on line before we went. Got seats right up top at the back, lots of room, comfortable and sound was superb. Saw La Traviata - great performance although set was a bit bland. They say dress up, although we didn’t - wasn’t an issue.....stunning building

If you are thinking Opera during your Prague visit, you'll want to read this first! Tickets can be purchased online- so I recommend 2 options. 1. If you have a set itinerary, try purchasing the tickets before your arrival to Prague so that you can print out the ticket OR 2. wait until you arrive in Prague so you can best fit the day you would like to go- have your hotel print them for you, we emailed our concierge who then printed our tickets. Do not be afraid that you won't understand the performance because a lot of the shows have substittles for the audience displayed above the stage. Plan to eat before or after... Parnas Restaurant is where we ate and at 4:30 pm seated we had the restaurant to ourselves. 6:45 pm we walked 3 min to the theater for the 7 pm showing. Then, after the show we ate some great street food and had a beer. Many people walked into the restaurant and reserved a late dinner table at 9-10pm for an after the show dinner. I wore a simple black dress with wedged pointed heels for easy walking, my friend was more brave and wore stilettos but carried foldable flats since we walked to the theater from our hotel.

Booked seats before leaving for Prague and 2 seats in the 2nd Gallery were £28.00. Seats are small - we were in the 2nd row (front row is very tight on leg room and high up) however the view of the stage and orchestra was great. Also arrive early and look around the theatre - a lady who took our coats advised us to go up the stairs onto the outside balcony of the theatre for wonderful views over Prague. The main reason of our visit was to look at the wonderful building but the production and music was wonderful and Violetta was fantastic. People watching was also fascinating and it was delightful to see all ages dressed up - many in long evening dress and gents in dinner suits. Well worth a visit if you can.

Went last night with much expectations.
The theatre was almost full with Czechs and foreigners alike. The theatre is very beautiful and is a big part of my childhood. It’s an iconic historical building much loved by the Czechs.
Unfortunately, last night’s production and performance of Bizet’s famous opera was disappointing. The stage set was a dreary shade of dark grey, the costumes mostly monochrome.
As far as signing and acting was concerned, it was very weak. Carmen’s movements were very limited due to her excessive weight and no temperament, considering she was portraying a passionate gypsy.
Her singing was adequate.
The star of the show was Micaela. Beautiful voice and demeanour. The viewers appreciated her voice by loud applause at the end.
Escamillo! What can I say? He was very indisposed, his voice didn’t perform well, in my opinion he was off key most of the time.
Altogether, the theatre is stunning, but wait for another production of this great opera.

The theater is not very big but it's really nice.

We watched an opera and a ballet, and it was great.

The seats are confortable, the theater is impecable, it was a great experience.

There are a couple of things that it could be better, for example .... there is only one sink in one of the man bathroom ..... there should at least be two!

Location is great, right by the river.

There is a parking structure right next to the theater if you choose to drive, which is really convenient.

This is a place one must visit when in Prague, so might as well watch a show!

Prague has three opera houses. All of them has good performances. Tickets can be bought on Internet. Google Narodni divadlo an select english translation. Pay and print out the tickets at home. Avoid the other options you will find ehen googling. There you must pay lots of fees, and you will get your tickets outside the theatre. This is not a safe solution.

Theatre is beautiful. Seats are small. Dress we saw at the performance was business casual to dressy. Production of La Traviata was pretty good. Violetta had it all: beautiful voice, good actress, beautiful girl. Supporting cast not quite up to her level, but not bad.
It's worth going for the theatre and for Violetta.
